Question about polarized ranges

Guys, one time I read in a poker site that the problem of using a polarized range (Example: 3-bet range SB vs BTN) is that we turn ourself exploitive, so it's better to use a merged range.
Can someone clarify for me ?
Thanks, any thought is appreciated.

I think we would need more context to give any good rebuttal. Both polarized and merged ranges can be perfectly valid under different conditions.
Edit: I guess one thing specifically about playing oop is that it might be better to be merged to try and compensate somewhat for your positional disadvantage with playable hands and maybe some additional equity vs a button calling range. The bottom line is playing oop sucks period :-)
