Playing $3/$6 limit with full kill a waste of time?

Just curious what you guys think. I normally play $2/$5nl but I love limit. For personal reasons I've had to deplete my bankroll. Instead of getting a part-time job would $1800.00 playing $3/$6 limit be worth it? Or is that game even beatable? It is $3/6 w/full kill. And the casinos I play at only offer $3/6 then it jumps to $20/40

Can it be beaten? Yes
Can it be beaten for more than a job would pay? Not unless you are really good and the job doesn't pay much more than minimum wage.

3/6 with full kill really isn't that beatable; and definitely not for minimum wage. The best players probably just beat the rake. Part time job would be best if youre looking to make money until you had enough to play $1/$2 NL at least.

I rather play limit too; it really sucks.

Re: Playing $3/$6 limit with full kill a waste of time?

i think if you're good enough to play for a living (even if it's just part-time), $1,800 should be enough money to take a shot at 1/2 with less than 15-20% chance of going broke (that's just a very rough estimate assuming you're a winning player). if you have an avg first month and manage your money well, then you're out of the danger zone with a strong BR for 1/2. just play standard ABC TAG and u should be fine to rebuild unless u hit an ugly streak of bad beats in back to back days. if that's the case, then go get a full time job to rebuild.

if u still don't wanna risk it playing NL, then beating that 3/6 limit game is going to require a lot of skill compared to the other players and huge volume. i'm sure a VERY strong player could beat that game (assuming a normal rake like 10% up to $5) for more than 1BB/hr. so you'd have to be a beast outplaying everyone for 60 hrs a week making around min wage to rebuild.

i feel obligated to say however, that if your BR is only $1800 and you felt like u needed 2plus2 for advice on whether to do this or not, you're probably not ready to do this. go get a full time job and play part-time as much as u can. make sure to keep track of everything and once u have a solid hourly rate at that 1/2 game, jump into the 2/5. once u have a solid hourly at that 2/5, then consider playing as your main source of income.

Re: Playing $3/$6 limit with full kill a waste of time?

For what it's worth, I have logged 535 hours of $4/$8 (with varying amounts of kill (half/full/none)) and have a $19.20/hour winrate. Now this includes jackpots (I have to include the -$1/hand so I should include the wins), which I have done probably a little better than break even on.

I think you should be able to win around $12/hour in your game if you are really good and don't tilt. It depends a lot on the rake. If the game is $5+$2 then forget it. If it's $3+$1 you should be ok.

$19 @ 4/8? You have to be the best in Vegas... I used to play that game 3-4 years ago and mix in 8/16 10/20 and 15/30 at the B back then. I do not remember what my rate was at 4/8 but I cant believe that it was that high (I did beat the game though). THere were a few grinders but what I noticed is that they would win a rack or two then leave for the day or go to another property.

I wouldnt want to live that way and when they were on a downswing they hated every part of life.

3/6 is beatable but not for much, the kill makes it more attractive but I think 5/10 is the lowest game that can be beaten for $10/hr or more.

I definitely don't recommend it as a long term strategy, but it's doable if you have very little expenses and can stay sane. My 535 hours come over the course of ~7 years so I can't say how I would do trying to play just $4/$8 for a living.

Keep in mind that 535 hours is only about 16k hands. Thats like a day for some people online.

The kill may make the game beatable, but also increases your necessary bankroll. Still it will be hard to make min wage.
