Hi,

Let's imagine a spot where we play the river vs a reg we play everyday, we hold a nut like combo and we definitely think we can extract max value by betting BIG, like overbetting big or shoving.

But Villain is a reg and we'll play him again and again in the future so we want to have a balanced strategy in spots like this. Which means that for such a big sizing we need to bet a mix of value hands and bluffs.

The problem is that given his river range (which is tight in this imaginary spot), and given his calling range, his folding frequency is very small, so there's no profitable bluff for such a big betsize.

Let's say that given his folding frequency, the biggest bluff sizing would be 80% of the pot (breakeven bluff). Every bluff using a bigger bet would be -EV.

In order to have a balanced strategy, what are the possible strategic adjustments in such a situation?

1. exploiting by value betting big (with no bluffs using such big sizing to balance) until Villain folds more and then introducing bluffs? But this means that either we can't bet our bluffs, or we should create an additional group of hands we bet for a medium sizing ; but given that we would have many hands we would Vbet with the big sizing, there would be fewer hands to Vbet with the medium sizing, and therefore either fewer bluffs or an unbalanced betting range with both sizings.

2. using an intermediate sizing (let's say pot sizing) mixing VB and bluffs (which means that we'd lose value with our Value hands because we could extract more with them) and we'll lose value with our bluffs because they'll be -EV (hmm this doesn't sound to be GTO at all)

3. using the 80% pot sizing for every hands, but we lose value with the hands we could overbet with and get called.

I guess #1 is the right way, but I am not sure, and it's not clear at all in my mind.

What do you think?

ad 1. exploitive play far from gt.

How to improve balanced bet range?
1. inspect valuehands, whether all hands really have value, whether some bit weaker can make thin bet
2. handselection bluffs
3. check whether 2 betsizes can do better.

If you have big sample on him and you are pretty sure about your read you should not try to play balanced strategy vs him because obv there are better ways to make money of him and after while if you think he starts to adjust then play GTOish strategy.

Im not sure why ppl think you should try to play GTO vs opponent you play often with.If your opponent has a leak you try to make money of it.GTO is strategy you should use vs unk and vs strong opponents that dont make mistakes often.

If he is a pow you exploit this with more value and less bluffs.
