PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): $6.53
SB: $5.00 (VPIP: 17.46, PFR: 12.70, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 65)
BB: $6.73 (VPIP: 11.86, PFR: 10.17, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 64)
UTG: $5.07 (VPIP: 13.16, PFR: 13.16, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 40)
MP: $8.21 (VPIP: 21.43, PFR: 16.67, 3Bet Preflop: 3.57, Hands: 87)
CO: $4.59

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has A 9

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.15, SB calls $0.13, BB calls $0.10

Flop: ($0.45, 3 players) J Q 4
SB checks, BB bets $0.35, Hero calls $0.35, SB raises to $1.25, BB raises to $6.58 and is all-in, fold, SB calls $3.60 and is all-in

If I were to call this and I'm 100% sure SB calls behind I would need 33% equity to justify calling right? Please correct me if I'm wrong

There is $5 + $6,73 + $0,50 in the pot and you need to call another $6,03. That gives you 2,02:1 which should be just about 33%. However, rake will take more than $0,60 out of the pot when you call so that makes it 1,92:1 which requires you to have 34,2% equity.

I assume you've done it the right way, all I've done is add everything in the pot and devide that by the amount you need to call. That gives you a ratio of x:1, you then devide 1 by 1+x and multiply by 100% to get the equity needed.

In this case (without rake) you get 2,02:1, 1/1+2,02 gives you 33%.

Rake is not a factor in the calculation for a pot odds calling decision.

How do you figure?

The real pot size is Pot Size - Rake,

Obviously rake matters. He's probably using his SNG/MTT logic and applies it to cashgame, and since MTT only rakes the buy-in and not the pots, his logic is correct in MTT structures but not in CG because of the blatant fact that that a breakeven move in a rakeless game would equal to a negative EV in a raked environment.
