Hello i would like to ask a question about basic math, but still confuses me:

let say pot is 10$ and we bet 7$ in it, this means that our bluff need to succeed 7/7+10= 41% of the time to be profitable, wich means villian has to defend at least 59% 100% -41% =59%

but if we look at villian pot odds : 7/17+7= 29% are his pot odds and he has to defend 29% to make our bet indifferent.

My question is : from villian perspective wich numbers should he consider ,should he defend 59%, or should he defend 29%? This is what confuses me.

Thank for you replies in advanced.

The 59% is villain’s MDF if hero is making a bluff bet. The 29% is not villain’s minimum defense frequency. There are two ways you can look at it.

1 Without any assumption on hero’s bet, 29% is the minimum equity villain needs for a call so he is assured of +EV.

2. If hero has 100% equity if not a bluff and 0 equity with a bluff, 29% is the proportion of bluff bets that hero should make if the bet is 70% of the pot.
