M vs BBs and preflop raise size M vs BBs and preflop raise size

Two questions, but they are related.

I notice that most people use number of BBs to judge their "health" in a tournament instead of "M" (BB+SB+antes). Why? M seems to me to be a better gauge of your stack, especially later in tournaments. Any thoughts.

Also,
It seems like people don't adjust their PF raise sizing once antes come into play. So, if they were raising 2.5x BB, when antes come in, they aren't adding anything to that raise size, doesn't this effectively lower the bet size and encourage calling?

Am I way off base on both of these?

You are pretty much right. M is more accurate, but BBs are easier to figure out so that is probably why people talk in terms of BBs. Pretend you have a 2000 stack and blinds are 100/200 with 50 ante. It is easier to figure out 2000/200 to give you 10BBs with ante than to multiply the ante by number of players at the table and add that to 200 and 100. Then after getting that number take 2000 and divide by that.

When you are in a tournament it is easier to do BB math on the fly than M. At least for me it is.

You are right that antes encourage playing looser too.
