I'm trying to throw together a spreadsheet that captures how different ranges interact on different boards and I'm having a hell of a time thinking this through. I feel like one of the biggest struggles for me in poker is trying to conceptualize all these different patterns in isolation. My hope is that the spreadsheet will allow me to quickly filter and sort different ranges to more quickly visualize what ranges smash different boards. This will hopefully allow me to refine my intuition in game for which player has a range advantage in the pot so that I can adjust my strategy accordingly.

Rather than work through each individual position(RFI vs PFC) hot and cold equity I want to have a better idea of the complete range and how it breaks down without getting too granular. I basically just tried to create four RFI ranges to get a general feel(I plan to go through some calling ranges later but I have to start somewhere):

RFI:

- Tight = 7%

- Med = 16.2%

- Loose = 36.6%

- Aggro = 51%

Here's a screen shot of how I have it configured so far:

I basically have 50 flops that are fairly representative of the most common textures. Then I break it down into:

- TPTK+

- Weak Pair(All board pairs less than TPTK+, all PP down to the bottom card on the board)

- Strong draw(defined as OESD, FD, and GS+BDFD)

- Air(100% - the first three categories)

- Bet%(Strong Draw% + TPTK+)

I'm currently using flopzilla for this project but its a total pain in the ass because the predefined filters don't really fit my needs so I have to customize a few of them(i.e. weak pair category includes too many hands)
What do you guys think? Before I invest hours of my life into this project I wanna ask a few questions:

- Is this even worth my time?

- Can I improve the way I'm recording the statistics to make this easier to digest or easier to filter/sort?

- Is there better software out there for what I'm trying to accomplish other than Flopzilla?

- Is there any resources out there that would help me to learn this part of the game without investing so many hours of my life?

I really do think range advantage is the next step in my journey. I'm currently beating 25NL over 60k hands by a small margin(2.5BB/100) and I feel like this is by far the weakest part of my game.

The only other concern I have is that when looking at the game through this scope youre completely missing out on how card removal effects peoples ranges and I'm not exactly sure how significant that will be to my goals.

Hey man. Weirdly enough, I've spent the last few days looking at exactly this type of stuff. And weirdly enough, I'm also playing 25NL and hoping to improve my game. I'll pm you, we should try to collaborate or something. Seems like a something useful to look at. I've focused more on equities on different flop textures but hand strength is probably a useful thing to look at as well

Ah dammit, you don't have enough posts to pm. Do you have skype / an email address or something?

Yeah that is a great way to do it and this is a really important thing to be aware of at the tables. Back in my training days I used to practice this with a deck of cards. I'd simply deal out flop after flop and consider how often a specific range hits or misses etc.

Your technique seems far more thorough than mine, but my method was awesome. There is one thing I used to do that I think is important for you to know - From time to time I would deal myself a hand facedown and would look at each situation through the eyes of my imaginary opponent. This enables me to assign a perceived range to myself. We don't really need to consider our actual range, but we do need to consider our perceived range. This is very important for a player in those games. If you can follow your perceived range, you will be able to see how often the opponent thinks that you have hit or missed, and that will make your winnings soar.

I think that the idea is very good, but I'm not sure that the result can give an exact formal solution, in view of the nature of the game. But the desire to formalize decision in certain situations, will definitely brings benefits.

I would recommend to try the Orange Calculator - Hold'em Explorer.
There are flexible User filter and Flop Texture filters in the programm.
They both can simplify your work.

Ahh but to an exploitative player like myself there is no formal solution to Poker. Every decision is unique. My method helps you work out how to make each of those decisions.
