Something tells me that if you're asking this question, then you're probably not even playing in games where this sort of thing would be close to necessary.
In your 88 example, the only reason I could ever see for folding to an open raise would be from a tight raiser with insufficient odds to set mine. I guess you could make an argument for folding it vs an EP raise where a 3bet behind you is very likely as well. If you're getting implied odds to setmine you should at least call 100% of the time since its going to be +ev. Every time you fold you're giving up a small profit.
If you really still want to do it then I'm sure the second hand can work well enough, but I'd strongly suggest devoting the extra effort towards always knowing what your range is. When you know what your range is for checking/betting/raising and calling at any stage of a hand, you can more easily spot situations where you need to be value betting more, or where you don't have enough bluffs, or where your checking range is too weak etc.
