This question is about floating and donk-betting lines.

• I am ignoring the hands anyone is holding, their possible ranges, as well as their equity.
• I am applying this to a one-on-one situation, the typical Hero vs Villain.
• I am focusing purely on the betting lines.
• I am also ignoring the bet sizes for the moment.
• The scenarios here are involving only a preflop raise, not a 3-bet, although there can be 3-bet variations.

1) Typical Flop float (Hero is IP)
• Preflop: Villain raises, Hero calls
• Flop: Villain checks, Hero bets, Villain folds

2) Typical Turn float (Hero is IP)
• Preflop: Villain raises, Hero calls
• Flop: Villain c-bets, Hero calls
• Turn: Villain checks, Hero bets, Villain folds

What are these lines called?
3) “OOP flop float/Blind Flop float”? (Hero is OOP in SB/BB)
• Preflop: Villain raises, Hero calls
• Flop: Hero donk-bets, Villain folds

4) “OOP turn float/Blind Turn float”? (Hero is OOP in SB/BB)
• Preflop: Villain raises, Hero calls
• Flop: Hero checks, Villain c-bets, hero calls
• Turn: Hero donk-bets, Villain folds

I think that 3 is a strong line that many players are not comfortable with. Add also that anyone who considers what ranges Hero may be playing from SB/BB should take the donk-bet as an indication of strength.

4 is also a typical line up to the turn. On the flop, hero checks to the preflop aggressor as standard, and villain c-bets as standard, but hero represents strength on turn.

So what do you think of these lines? And how about the last 2? Are they popular, and what are they called, if they have any name at all?

There's gonna be some confusion here due to the unconventional way Pokertracker names certain actions.
To me, a "flop float" means calling on the flop with the intention of betting the turn when checked to. "Floating the turn" means calling on the turn, with a plan to bet the river.

If someone bets IP (after calling pre) when checked to on the flop, I usually say the player made a stab at the pot. He hasn't "floated" anything imo, but I think the Pokertracker people consider it "floating the pre-flop raise in order to bet the flop". :/

3. Is just your common or garden flop donkbet. (Leading into the pre-flop aggressor).

4. A turn donkbet. (Personally, I call this a "Geodonk" because an old friend of mine called Geo was fond of the check-call flop/donk turn line. In the old days, it was referred to as a "stop and go", but that phrase is more commonly used for a different line that involves calling pre and then donk-shoving the flop when short-stacked in a tourney)

FWIW, I hardly ever donk the flop or turn, because good situations to do so rarely come up. Fish make donkbets all the time.

Thanks Arty!

This really helped to clarify a lot of things. The distinction about PT4 as well is really valuable.

Speaking of Flop floats on PT4, I can't see any stats on the HM2 Hud specifically involving Floats.

There is a stat relevant to Floating, which is about Check-Folding the Turn ie. "Turn Check-Fold OOP".

Are there any Float stats on the HM2 Hud which I haven't found?

And if not, I wonder if this feature has been asked to be added to HM2.

I don't have HEM on this PC, but I'm pretty sure I had the relevant stat in one of my pop-ups. It was something like "bets turn IP after missed turn c-bet". For the pre-flop raiser it would be "Check folds turn after missed turn c-bet".
When I played on HUD-friendly sites, I used Notecaddy badges for stuff like that instead. (My "one and done c-bettor" badge was very useful for finding villains I could float).

I agree with this, I don't think donking is very necessary (at low stakes at least) and its just a hassle to try and balance your donking range along with x/r range and x/c range so generally vs most regs I just x/c or x/r and leave donking only vs fish. Also when its a 3way pot, say btn raises sb calls and I (on bb) call I do balance a lead-out range here but I'm pretty sure this isn't known as a donk bet.
