bet, check, bet line with medium hands OOP

Hey,

I was just looking at some medium hands I played OOP and I noticed there might be a leak in the lines I take.

I play small stakes (50nl), and against weaker opponents who call too much postflop, I often take a line like this:

hand: QJs
position: utg

raise 3x

call from the CO, weak passive player.

Flop: Q74rainbow

Bet, call
turn: x

bet, fold

In general you want to fire 3 streets for value against a weak passive player. But I noticed the power of checking the turn when your OOP. The fish will very often bet, only because you check, but if you 2nd barrel yourself on the turn the fish will fold.

So is there not more value in checking the turn OOP with these kind of hands against these opponents?

Or is betting 3 streets for value more profitable in the long run? Now this is a very general subject, and depends on lots of factors, but on 50nl there a just a lot of weak players who give you value by checking the turn.

Any thoughts on this?

Try to construct a calling range for the fish on the flop, and then a calling and betting range for the fish on the turn.

If he's betting a wider range than what he is calling with then checking to induce is fine as you'll make more money off of his bluffs.

On dry boards like this, maybe you can try just betting smaller to get more value. It depends a lot on the turn card too though.
