I don't have my database on this computer, but I know I have a very low VPIP with 73s. I've literally never called a raise with it on the button, and the only situations I can think of where I will play it is on the button or in the SB when trying a steal from a nitty BB, or as a call in the BB vs a BTN/SB steal. (The latter is a fairly common spot). I don't call with 73s when I think villain's range is QQ+, because I like playing against weak ranges, not strong ones. Your idea of implied odds is - like your book - about 10 years out of date.
