Why hasn't Anand's rating inflated?

In January 2001 Anand was 2790

His current live rating is 2780.

Most everyone else who is still active from the 2001 list have gained about 20-30 points by inflation, but he seems to be at roughly the same level every year for the last decade. I certainly don't think he got worse over that time. What gives?

You need to regularly play other inflated players for your rating to rise with it.

But other than that at his peak he was a very healthy 2817. You're just comparing him to his current downswing.

He peaked at 2817, however in January this year he was 2799. At the 2010 World Championship he was 2787. January 2008 he was 2799. January 2006 he was 2792. And so on. Seems like he's stayed in the same range for quite awhile.
