It's commonly thought that Fischer's smack talk on the beach led directly to the brawl during the pre-match weigh in.

I also love the historically accurate move notation in that trailer.

I just saw it. It was ok but not great. They spent a lot of time on his mental illness issues.

I saw it this evening with my college age daughter. I think she liked it more than I did. The movie played pretty fast and loose with a lot of the depicted events.

a chess movie staring Toby McGuire should be the life story of Paul Morphy---who was a small person physically, socially sophisticated and upper class---Fischer was tall, athletic and had some social rough edges, someone totally different than McGuire

I did *not* like how they portrayed Fischer in the movie.

They basically sensationalized his mental illness.

There are parts of Fischer's life where he is well you know, more/less normal. The movie makes it seem like he was always a raving lunatic.

Saw the movie last week. Didn't know much about Fischer till I saw this. I can see how professional chess at the highest level can screw up a person's mind. I think I'll stick to the recreation level

theguardian said that Fischer was played "arrogant and manic" by Tobey Maguire.

Fischer was not manic constantly in his life, the movie was really a sad portrayal of him.

For example, Fischer was relaxed and quite "normal" during the extended interview that Dick Cavett gave him.
