This actually isn't true. The rules have a bunch of qualifiers. I think K+2N is only a draw if the other side has 0 pawns. 'No forced mate' is a qualifier for all of the draw by insufficient mating material claims

afaik the USCF rules for blitz games doesn't have such a qualifier. I may be wrong though. I have only seen the discussion and somebody quoting from the USCF rules for blitz.

Hm, I'll have to look it up again. I thought the rules were for any sudden death period, but I could definitely be wrong.

Not in blitz.

Optionally there can be a few very restricted situations where an ILC claim can be made in the USCF.

There is no provision at all in FIDE blitz rules short of it being logically impossible to be mated. So, for example K+B v. K+B(opp. color) is lost if you run out of time since it is possible for your own bishop to help with the mate by blocking the only escape square.

another classic in blitz chess:
exchange the starting position of your own/your opponent's king and queen. After 3 moves have been played, it's too late to change them back, which can obviously be exploited, for example by provoking illegal moves.

Lmaoooooo

this is a good one, and original too!

Phaedrus, I take it you're a fan of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?

I'm confused by this. How can it provoke illegal moves? Castling would still be legal, and I can't think of any other illegal moves it would cause.

If they really don't notice and play 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Kxd5 then that's probably still illegal.

Well, you probably have to wait until 3 moves have been played.
Better example:
White exchanges the position of his own queen and king against someone who plays the French Winawer variation:

1.e4-e6
2.d4-d5
3.Nc3-Bb4
4. exd5

and after 4.-exd5 you can claim a win because the king is in check

I finally saw the video of the final blitz tiebreaker.

I'll just say that it's ridiculous to decide the TITLE of us champion without an increment. Who can make nonsense moves faster gets to be US Champ!

No wonder some people have an opinion about chess in America. How is this professionalism?

/rant

The moment where Krush knocks the king off the board, that would make a great avatar lol.

There's a 4L thread "request an avatar" and this guy plubius (i think thats his name) is really cool and makes u an avatar.

He made the one i have now.

The part I like the most is she hits the king so hard it hits one of the players, and then that person just looks down at the king on the floor, probably not even believing what just happened.

Hehe great avatar. Can't believe you still think it's cheating tho, if I remember right it was shown pretty clearly before that she's not breaking the rules. (unless she's holding the clock down? can't watch the video now)

in a blitz game recently i accidentally high-fived my opponent in the middle of the board because my hand was coming from the clock and his was moving towards it at the same time

Pls explain how castling would still be legal?

Why wouldn't it be? His king started on an incorrect square but it hasn't been moved so he can still castle as normal right?

Isn't the general rule just to cancel the game though? At least that's what I've always done but not sure about ye olde FIDE.

In tournament games the game is by default replayed yea. At least in some blitz rules you can still castle if your king and queen are reversed, effectively turning kingside castling into long castling and vice versa

king hasn't moved, and rook hasn't moved. The proper queenside castle would be the short side castle.
