Tal Memorial 2013

The Tal Memorial begins soon, running from June 12-24. The average ELO of the tournament is 2777 and features 7 of the world's top 10 players. Here are the participants.

Carlsen
Kramnik
Anand
Nakamura
Karjakin
Caruana
Morozevich
Gelfand
Mamedyarov
Andreikin

Time controls are one hour and 40 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for the 20 moves and 15 minutes for the remainder of the game. There is a 30 second increment starting from the first move.

This should really be a great event, lots of exciting players here. Can't wait.

I hope Morozevich's form improves from how he played in Greece, or this field will tear him to shreds.

No kidding. This caliber of field isn't forgiving at all.

Re: Tal Memorial 2013

Getting close now, once again no Kramnik and Topalov. I thought we might see them both in Norway but since kramnik pulled out maybe we'll have to wait another 5 years before they play each other in a classical game.

It will be interesting to see if Karjakin and Caruana can continue recent good results and if we get a new 2800 player from this event, or if Carlsen gets revenge after 2nd place in his home country's tournament. I'd back Magnus, I think he's mad :-)

Wow, impressive indeed. I just went and played through his games, they're a lot of fun. Naka plays some pretty eccentric stuff in blitz. Great for watching.

Re: Tal Memorial 2013

First round is underway, all games are currently in progress. Carlsen-Kramnik takes place this round, which is a heck of a way to start things off.

Re: Tal Memorial 2013

Nakamura: first place in the blitz event, first choice of draw, takes white in round 1, loses his first classical game (with white).

Caruana: last place in the blitz event, last choice of draw, stuck with black in round 1, wins his first classical game (with black, against Anand).
