Day 19

Watched this video on Morphy, was very instructive. Another fine video by Finegold (what a last name).

Also completing my database for the Caro Lines, I'm still on the classical variation at the moment.

Day 20

So I'm inputting the Schandorff repertoire into the chessbase database right now...

I've started with chapter 7 of the classical mainline which is really the most important ones.

I still have another 20 or so hours to input chess variations into PGNs before the tournament starts, so by then I will probably have 60-70% of the book done.

Also watched a pretty cool video that kind of cement my argument that the best way to give yourself the best chance to beat stronger players is to play tactically complicated opposite side castling position, something that the Schandorff repertoire tries to get.

In the video, Mario Roper, a 1000 rated player beats an NM (wtf), playing a very tactically crazy, complicated opposite side castling game.

The NM (black) missed a computer like win in this position, can you find the move?

Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coAm5xiO61E

If there is a crazy computer like win in this mainline Caro line I will eat my shoe and quit chess right away

To correct the mistake on post 329

This pic is just about the opening line i was studying...

This pic is the one that was in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coAm5xiO61E

Fine the surprise move for black!

Spoiler:
The answer is Bxg4! Followed by Rfc8. Pinning the bishop make sure it can't take the c4 knight this tempo

Day 21

So despite having near no sleep after spending the whole night and day at the casino, I came back to townhall to battle some blitz players.

Played one of the best live blitz sessions in my life and I went to stomp everyone including a 7 game undefeated streak at one point.

This was one of the more notable games, I mated some 1900 ish friend who peaked at 2100, in 25 moves in devastating fashion in the KIA.

Game was from memory, so move order might not be perfect...

Nice game. Does 19. Qh6 work? I don't really see a defense for black, as taking the queen obviously leads to mate in 1, whereas 19. ... Xxf6 20. Nxf6+ (X+1)xf6 21. gxf6 is mate next move.

Ahhh, yes very nice move. I'm actually pissed I missed that now XD The guy and I have history. Showing him up with a move like that in front of his mates like that would've been gold :P

Day 22

Woke up too late. Not gonna be able to finish the classical lines by tmmr. And tournament is this saturday...

So just gonna watch the KIA, Semi Slav, Caro chessbase vids (Davies, Krasen, Bologan) to prepare.

Just paid someone $200 AUD to input all of the Schandorff Semi Slav book into PGN format, which might take around 30-40 hours of my time to do so.

Totally worth it.

Day 23

Some blitz at townhall.

Got my bullet back to 2000+.

https://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=1786522935

The tournament tmmr seems abit unlikely now, because it starts way to early, is way out of town (1.5 hrs+ at least) and I haven't had sleep for over 34 hours now. I'm unlikely gonna wake up early enough to want to play it.

Also, one of my friends got angry after he found out I've been sending my blitz games with him with another friend for some analysis. And he thought we were trash talking him and now even refuse to talk to me. Chess people are f**king autistic sometimes.

Basically I will probably be avoiding him and not turning up to townhall anytime soon. It's just too awkward lol.

Will probably just continue on completing the Caro Khan database (might as well).

Day 25

Already a quarter of the remaining days till the zonal gone and I'm definitely behind schedule. But with my friends helping me to input the Caro/Semi Slav lines that should speed things up abit.

I'm back to inputting some of Marin's English lines.

Was mostly out today but did some blitz.

Also good article here about studying openings: https://www.chess.com/article/view/s...-the-opening-1

Day 26

Playing badly at blitz atm, getting bad positions out of the opening, which was more of a reminder to inputting lines into my database.

Now that I trusted the semi slav/caro to some people, I can work on my English lines, which I did earlier in the thread. But this time, I'm completely copying Marin's Repertoire over some of the main lines that I've tried playing, abeit with less success.

Starting on his Volume 3 book, I will get these chapters done first. I did them in the past so I should be able to remember these to some degree.

Botvinnik variation of the semi slav, a good line because people mistakenly go into it...

Day 28

Got sent a sample of the Semi Slav repertoire (the one I paid 200 AUD for).

Will do the later chapters of volume 3 before Chapter 8-10. I think Chapter 11-15 is more practical than the others (3. ... e6 lines).

Is it possible to pay him another $200AUD to play all of your blitz games for you so you concentrate on other things? Seems like it'd also be $ well spent.
