Heh many GMs/IMs are going to whine if games start before noon, noon start is probably still considered early

much as i dislike gelfand, i'd love if anand blunders in the rapids to drive home how much of a joke the world championship has become

It makes no sense for anyone to say Gelfand is a joke if he beats EVERY SINGLE PERSON between him and the title. He didn't create this structure and I'm sure is as shocked as anyone at the drawish lines Anand is taking with White.

Carlsen was the joke for opting out like a baby.

My suggestion would be this:

With the engines reigning supreme, chess has to shift to two fronts. One is truth in chess with the pursuit of purity...the engines reign supreme in this. What chess needs to focus on is exciting competition. I have no problems with the WC cycles speeding up the time control so that two games are played per day. You can have two Game in 120 minutes per day and make the match say 36 or 48 games. I think chess would benefit more from the competition aspect than the ultimate truth in position concept.

The problem with the earlier FIDE knockouts were too many people in too short of matches. Make the candidate matches a series of 36 games where 2 are played a day.

Kramnik's idea to play the tiebreaker before the rest of the match is good.

I like this idea. All it takes is one player motivated to fight and you can have a decent match. This way one player is always motivated to fight no matter what the match score is.

A problem with that is the match is 6-5 and the leading player won the the tiebreak, the last game is meaningless. It does have its upsides as well admittedly

The upside would be that you could bet your ass that the 11th game at 5.5-4.5 would be fireworks.

Also in the current format it's also not impossible for the match to be decided before the final game.
