Morozevich

A post on another thread about Morozevich made me want to start looking over his games. I've always heard he's an exciting player, but have never checked into it for myself. I just got through browsing the database for some of his Slav games with black. All I can say is wow, I'm a fan. He plays such sharp variations, much of it I've never seen. It seems to me like his strategy is to create a complicated, dynamic mess on the board and use his superior calculation abilities in the resulting positions. Really interesting stuff and I'd give anything to be able to play like that.

If anyone has any favorite games, stories, or just random thoughts on Morozevich please post them here. His play is definitely deserving of its own thread

Re: Morozevich

That's a pretty good explanation of Morozevich's style. He plays positions where intuitional guidelines don't apply and everything is decided by calculations. His games often feature multiple blunders from both sides because the positions are so complicated.

I don't think I've ever seen a Morozevich game that was a strategical masterpiece, but there have been plenty decided by brilliant tactical play.

This is one of my favourites that comes to mind

EDIT - (The second game in that list)

Re: Morozevich

This is one of the best and most memorable games of the 2000-2010 decade (25...Rh7!!):

Morozevich - Vachier-Lagrave, Biel 2009

Okay, he is on the receiving end in this game, but it is just an amazing game by both players and it deserves the No. 1 spot in both of their "Best Games" books.

Re: Morozevich

Holy crap 25...Rh7!! is insane. I can't get over the fact that it was on the board, en prise, for something like 25 moves, and then escaped. Unbelievable game. The complications in that one are out of this world.

Thank you both for those games. Fantastic stuff.

Moro is pretty amazing. I remember seeing some of his games when he first came up and was blown away by his youth and talent. Very exciting player.
