This thread is to keep track of previously played Malkovich games, games currently underway, and to help players who are interested in a game find opponents. First of all, for those who are unfamiliar with the concept, here is the description of a Malkovich Chess Game:

but in short the idea is two high ranked players play out a correspondence game in the thread posting a diagram and their next move but also, in spoiler tags, commentary on why they are doing that and some of their considerations regarding what they see as the upcoming variations in short we get to see the thought process of the player as they play it. Obviously the players don't read each others commentary.
If you would like to play a game, just post in this thread that you are interested. Also, please try to give as much information about your playing strength as you can, so that a balanced opponent can be found. FIDE/USCF ratings are great, particularly if you're an active player. ICC/FICS ratings are good too. And chess.com correspondence ratings are probably particularly relevant to this format as well. If you find someone you would like to play with, and no more than one other game is in progress, feel free to start up a thread. If there are already two games running, let me know that you've agreed to play and I'll add you to the "upcoming pairings" list. We'd like to limit this to at most two games at once, to avoid overcrowding the forum with games. Other than that, though, there are no limitations on who can participate, as long as you can find an interested opponent, so have fun!

I could do this.

My current USCF rating is 1729, but I've been inactive for most of the past ten years. My rating peaked at 1822 just before I stopped playing. ~1700 should be a reasonable estimate of my playing strength now.

I'll probably treat this like a true correspondance game and only make a move (or two) per day.

Okay, I want to be on the list so I don't get buried under a dozen guys, but I also don't want to be involved in the next two or three games.

So with that caveat,

1500ish ICC, 1086(p6) USCF

Ganstaman Cadaz is 0-1

I'd be up for another one at some point but not just yet.

My current rating is 1749 but I have been inactive for about 3 years. I think my highest rating was 1779 if I recall correctly.

For reference i have no idea what my FIDE would be as only ever had a bcf grading and Finland doesnt seem to have many live tournaments or at least not any up to date websites about them... I'd say no more than 1650 though for sure.

I always thought BCF was roughly 1/10th of FIDE rating ... or at least it is at the top level.
Having said that, the 150 attack, so named because it was initially considered a 'club player's' attack, was apparently the equivalent of calling it the 1800 attack.

Knowing the results of the game before I even click the link kindve ruins the suspense =\

They revamped the rating system and re-scaled grades so its pretty hard to get an accurate conversion plus I doubt that my playing strength is exactly the same as back then anyway.. Lower levels it's definately not 1/10th. Possibly higher up, not sure.

Sorry, that's what I get for posting when I'm exhausted. Fixed. But...

Not a bad point. I'll get rid of the results entirely

I'd be interested in this. I have an old fide rating of ~1750, havent played in tournaments for ~4 years but recently been spending a lot of time playing online and studying. I play very positional style and think quite abstractly - I trust in my position to take care of any tactical problems to come and don't calculate much at all. Leads to some embarassing tactical loses . I'd like to think im better strategically than others at my level but what do you know.

I've been lurking this forum for quite a while but decided to join just now so please dont ignore me because of 1 post, hehe.

I'd like to play one at some point, no real rush though. My FIDE rating is approx 2020, I think my chess.com correspondence rating was 2250 or so.

Just a note, in case it wasn't clear, it's up to you to organize your own games. Peruse the thread, looking for someone around your rating who's interested, PM them, and set it up. Also, if you post in this thread and then later decide you aren't interested anymore, feel free to PM me and I can delete your post

A couple days have passed since my post in Low Content thread but I haven't heard anything from Nezh, so I think it is fair for Smilingbill to play the IM at Malkovich's game.

Smilingbill, are you still interested?

What if he's already researched your opening repertoire and is prepping as we speak? You dont even know who he is to do the same (obv this game requires serious prep)

I think anything is fine apart from engines. Unless I am forgetting something super obvious here?

Also, it's not like my friend (or me for that matter) knows who Smilingbill is in real life either, so preparation is quite out of question

I'd be interested in playing one. My USCF is in the 1800s and I'm active. I'm a strong tactician but my opening book knowledge is probably that of a 1400 player. Dead serious, some of my commentary might be amusing.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay, I am going to setup the Smilingbill vs anonymous IM match soon, we at Texas are being hit by some ridiculous and totally unusual cold, so there are constant power outages because people use like 3x more electricity than usual and providers cant keep up with that.. Whenever everything is OK the match will be underway, stay tuned

I highly recommend calling him IM Anon instead of having to type out anonymous IM.

is it ever gonna be revealed who the anonymous IM is?

Also someone play me! Everyone here is either an Expert/Master or lower class player. Where are my kind of good/kind of crappy chess brethren at?
