This describes my history with King's Gambit exactly.

It is a great opening to learn as a beginner because it teaches you the basics of controlling the center and attacking. You should have some fun on chess.com with it.

This could be considered "fun stuff" but this was one gambit I almost never played as White ( as Black, sure! ) not just because of the fact that accepting was viable, but simply declining is perfectly fine for Black players content to equalize ( think about it: if White is playing the King's gambit, he's probably out for blood! ), so I recall from my younger days some IM mentioned in the declined that the 6...a6! move order was best and even though 7. Nd5 Nxd5 8. Bxd5 has scored well in practice, one would have to think that after 8...Bg4, White has almost nothing.

Sure, there's a lot of chess history in the KG and if your opponent accepts the gambit, he usually has to know some theory/ideas to get an okay position, so it's just another way to practice calculating variations.
