this post in ganstaman's thread inspired me to add the vienna to my opening repertoire. what other human openings are there like this?

i know about the traxler, the fried liver (yum!), the bongcloud, and the king's gambit, but what else is there? thanks for your time!

If you're looking for a fearless king, I suggest investigating the Bishop's opening. White's king often ends up on d1 or f1 with no attacking compensation for black. For example: 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Bc5 3.Nc3 Nc6 4.Qg4 Qf6 5.Nd5 Qxf2+ 6.Kd1 +/-

Early development of the king to d1/d8 is not cool, it's seen too often at the world championship level Look only for kings going to their second rank early.

Another example is Danish Gambit Accepted (Schlechter Defence): 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Bc4 cxb2 5.Bxb2 d5 6. Bxd5 Nf6 7. Bxf7+ Kxf7 8. Qxd8 Bb4+. For some reason this line was featured even in the first (children's!) chess book I read.

As I'm playing a Benko Gambit thematic TM now (I prefer declining it with White, fwiw), I've examined a few variations and just stumbled upon a well-respected and well-scoring (~58%) one where the king doesn't castle but is fianchettoed at move 10

Benko Gambit Accepted, King Walk Variation

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 c5 3. d5 b5 4. cxb5 a6 5. bxa6 Bxa6 6. Nc3 d6 7. e4 Bxf1 8. Kxf1 g6 9. g3 Bg7 10. Kg2 O-O 11. Nf3

When you fianchetto your bishop, the king will often use the g2/g7 square later on. But what if your opponent does the same, nullifying that advantage? The solution is to go one step further:

1.g4 g6 2.d3 d6 3.Bf4 Bg7 4.Bg3 Nf6 5.Nh3 O-O 6.Nf4 Re8 7.h3 Nbd7 8.e3 c6 9.Be2 Qc7 10.f3 a6 11.O-O b5 12.Rf2 Bb7 13.Kg2!

With this variation you are closer to the center, and with your superior king position you will win in the endgame, unless your opponent tricks you with a cheapo before that.

Sorry if these Eric Hansen's videos about king openings have been posted before - I'm not subbed to his channel and missed them.

While analysing CE's game, Stockfish 6 has discovered a king walk (to f3 at move 10) line in the Chigorin-Kromos variation of the Sarratt Attack.
