I can't remember which chess publication I read it in, but there may even be examples in his own books of how, much later, when he reviewed some of his attacks with a top engine it found some incredible defences.

It was around 50/50 split of who people thought would win, alphago was actually favored by the betting markets. Not exactly a unique prediction there.

If you made it through mathematically modeling extrapolation data, that could be a bit impressive, but most people's predictions weren't much more sophisticated than "I remember deep blue beat kasparov." Only DeepMind actually had the information available to make a good estimate of the result.
