Don't ask me what 20...Bb5 was??

You should find Winning Chess Strategies and How to Reassess Your Chess, 4th ed. useful.

Positional operations lasting 2-4 moves or so are more common and important than long-term plans.

Re pawn structure: try some videos, I guess. I'm not aware of any books geared towards the sub-1600 level: Pawn Structure Chess by Soltis is probably too advanced.

Does grando still play? Just watched his last couple games posted in here.

20 Bb5 I thought I was the only one who liked to discover (potential) attacks on his queen?

27 Qxe4 seems pretty strong to me, instead of that pawn move. Win a pawn and centralize your queen and make him either move his knight or bring his Queen back down the h-file to protect that knight.

Honestly I don't play much now. My study and practice partner moved away, and kind lost focus. I played 2 live tourneys, bit the skill level of the members (either 1500 or 2000) was pretty frustrating. I've been looking to spend my time learning something more relevant (ie bridge)

I was thinking of sending you another correspondence challenge but it sounds like that's a no go.

I thought you were pretty good pretty fast and enjoy watching your games. You make a lot of moves that I don't see.

Well after a year of not really doing much, the chess bug has really hit me again. The reasons I stopped before are pretty much gone, plus lichess has shown to be exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to start back with going over Everyone's Second Chess Book by Heisman and doing some medium-level tactics puzzles. Played my first game in over a year:

Basic Ruy Lopez game - counting like an idiot left that d4 pawn there way longer than it should've been. It seemed like a decent, if not straightforward, game that I felt good throughout. 17. Qb3 seemed to open up a few tactical chances for me, but he just ended up blundering.

I'll be pushing through Alburt's Comprehensive Chess Course Vol. 2 and keeping up with continual tactics and periodic games. Chess is weird for me, as I almost prefer to learn about it then actually play it lol.

Play in a tourney this weekend - apparently my local club has like quadrupled in size since I played there 2 years ago so we'll see. 30+0 5 game Swiss. I'll be lucky to win a game, as most of my prep has been tactics and theory and not so much actual playing.
