This event starts tomorrow (official site --- official site translated to English)

It's a Round Robin format, with these eight players:

Caruana (2789)
Kramnik (2777)
Adams (2743)
Leko (2737)
Ponomariov (2723)
Naiditsch (2705)
Meier (2632)
Baramidze (2616)

Anyone want to run the numbers on what score (out of 7) Caruana would need to finish the event rated >2800?

lol, Rei Ayanami, you are an elite poster and I am not embarrassed to say I am a fan! I don't know if you play bridge or not but I think you'd be good at it and might enjoy it.

Tow decisive games in round one - both wins for black. Caruana over Baramidze is pretty expected. Top seed beats bottom. However the other win was Meier over Kramnik! Nice way for a seven seed to start a tourney, I'd say.

Meier beats Kramnik with black and two games with Dutch in one round - not sure which one is more of a surprise :O

Caruana over Ponomariov, putting his live rating up to 2795.8, and he now "only" needs to score +2 the rest of the way (3.5/5) to finish the event >2800

Naiditsch-Caruana and Leko-Adams have the same Berlin variation on the board right now. I wonder if Naiditsch is waiting to see what happens on the other board.

Caruana is crushing it: 3.5/4 so far. But he needs 2/3 against the rest of the stronger half -- Kramnik, Adams, and Leko -- and he has the White pieces only once, against Adams. His expected score, based on official ratings, not accounting for colors, is 1.65/3. So it's still quite a sweat.

Caruana wins again, now he's on 5/6, just needs a draw against Leko to finally be rated over 2800 at the END of a tourney. Currently he's on his lifetime best live rating.
