I see that this is basically the best digital clock out on the market and that it's the official clock of FIDE. That said, I also see that they released it in October of 2014. How often do they release new versions of their clocks? I don't want to spend $110 on it only to see them come out with the "DGT 3000 XL" for $10 more in a few months. Anyone know anything about this stuff or know when the next model in this line can be expected? Anyone have any thoughts on whether this clock is worth it or not?

Thanks

That looks like a clock for a hardcore tournament chess enthusiast! I do like that style for blitz though, as clocks that have plungers don't do as well at blitz chess.

I have the GameTimeII in red with the plungers and since I got it at the end of 2014, it has the new and improved plungers. I've played quite a bit of blitz with it since then and never had even the slightest problem.

Still, I agree with you: I like the "seesaw" method for the buttons on top of the clock.

Did some research and thought about it more: Definitely buying this and I feel really good about it. This is a gorgeous clock that will last me years.

Picking these up, as well since I'm paying for the shipping now anyway and don't need anything else from them for a long time:

Is it important to have the best chess clock? It never mattered to me what clock I used. I was more than content to use an old beat-up analog clock.

Why would it matter if a new version came out in a few months?

Why are you buying a new clock if this one is satisfactory?

Call me crazy but I like to have nice things maybe? Who only buys something when they absolutely need it? Live a little!

Some of the guys at the club have broken pieces, boards with ink marks all over them, and clocks that have tape on them lol. It's almost offensive to see them plop it down on the table and expect someone else to play a game over it.

The last-but-one DGT (DGT 2000?) has been the standard for at least 5 years, they don't go obsolete

They came out with the 2010 and then updated it in 2012. Then they came out with the DGT XL in 2012 itself to be followed by the DGT 3000 in 2014. DGT 3000 has been named the official clock of FIDE at this point. It's what they used in Sochi and what they use at grandmaster level FIDE events. It's beautiful.

It definitely won't be going obsolete.
