Okay Magnus is 2848.0, 3.5 points away from the record.

Tomorrow he has black against Aronian, who is 2815.

DOES HE GET THE 3.5 POINTS IF HE WINS? Is it on the line?

Wow, you're not kidding. I just played through the game the first time and was left with a "wtf just happened?" type of feeling. Amazing that Carlsen can destroy one of the world's top players in 30 moves without an obvious blunder. Carlsen just strangled him with ultra strong moves. Incredible.

And now in the blitz against Caruana game Carlsen had Caruana in a lost position in 10 moves after the ultra sharp: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. g3!!

I think many might say Kasparov brought in the era of preparation. Assuming Carlsen will be this generation's king, what will his era be?

what was Kasparov's highest live rating? I think you have to compare like with like.

I would like to know what Kasparov's live rating record is. But anyway, the main reason I'm only comparing it to the 2851 is that I assumed that Magnus wouldn't play again between now and November 1st, so his rating at the end of this tourney would go into the official books as his November 2012 FIDE rating.
