There's a famous example of White moving the king onto the 7th rank (not d7, though) at move 25, to the 8th at move 28, with queens still on, and proceeding to win the game

this is a composition apparently (didn't realise until i started doing some reading just now)

Should have told him about the -0.8 Stockfish eval.

I guess if I wanted to cheat in a strange way, I might pick moves that keep the eval about level and force my opponent into a draw.

12 y.o. (could even be 11?), very low rated compared to other prodigies, but that could be because of no opportunities to play maybe? But to string together even 3 results like that vs ~2500 opposition shows some serious promise.

I was beating weak adults when I was 5. Sometimes I torment myself with what could have been if I'd had any training.

On the flip side, I don't imagine I'd have been great enough to make real money at chess anyway - I'm not 2700+ even in my dreams.

It turns out Kramnik simply took a water from that table beforehand and got the "good" water while Magnus ended up with the "bad" water. But maybe that was misreported and there will now be a run of water exploding incidents which Kramnik is sitting suspiciously close to.

Yes, an excellent quote by Carlsen and I imagine almost surely a play on the poker saying. I first saw that tweet and didn't think it was all that funny out of context. But then I watched the press conference and heard Giri and now it's very funny.
