On the flip side, some people can be super paranoid about this. I just played on Lichess someone not even 100 points above me in an UNRATED game. He ending up offering a draw, even though he had the better game on the black side of a Ruy Lopez Exchange (and -0.8 Stockfish eval), and after the game he sends me the following message:

"You know it and I know it. Consider it a courtesy that I am not reporting you." [and he blocked me]

All I can say is "LOL, you moron."

Should have told him about the -0.8 Stockfish eval.

I guess if I wanted to cheat in a strange way, I might pick moves that keep the eval about level and force my opponent into a draw.

Might be another name to watch out for, BJJ:

http://www.chess-results.com/tnr2809...wi=821&snr=363

12 y.o. (could even be 11?), very low rated compared to other prodigies, but that could be because of no opportunities to play maybe? But to string together even 3 results like that vs ~2500 opposition shows some serious promise.

I was beating weak adults when I was 5. Sometimes I torment myself with what could have been if I'd had any training.

On the flip side, I don't imagine I'd have been great enough to make real money at chess anyway - I'm not 2700+ even in my dreams.

Finally we found something that can defeat Carlsen!

I hope Kramnik was trolling him by shaking it up or something. When you've been around that long you can just start pranking everyone all the time!

It turns out Kramnik simply took a water from that table beforehand and got the "good" water while Magnus ended up with the "bad" water. But maybe that was misreported and there will now be a run of water exploding incidents which Kramnik is sitting suspiciously close to.

Nice win by Nakamura over Giri today.

Also this tweet by Magnus is very similar to the famous "If you can't spot the fish in your first 30 minutes at the table then you are the fish" poker quote:

Quote:
Magnus Carlsen @MagnusCarlsen Jun 5

If you can't spot the Hammer, it's probably you @anishgiri
Which is lol and pure pwnage at the same time!

That tweet is in reference to Giri saying this at the press conference:

Quote:
Giri: "You'd be surprised. It's not necessarily the line-up. Sometimes you have Jon Ludvig Hammer [as a] player and everybody hopes to beat him. The other day you have a top tournament like this and before you know, some very strong player can be the Ludvig Hammer of the tournament. He doesn't necessarily need to be Norwegian. We've seen many times players of this caliber ending on minus three, minus four, losing four games in a row. It seems that everybody is good but after a couple of rounds we'll find our losers. I hope it will not be me."

Yes, an excellent quote by Carlsen and I imagine almost surely a play on the poker saying. I first saw that tweet and didn't think it was all that funny out of context. But then I watched the press conference and heard Giri and now it's very funny.
