Holy **** have you really been watching him as long as I have? I could swear that game is from 2009-2010... ish.

Kingscrusher is an odd dude for sure, and other chess youtubers have surpassed him by now, but he'll always have a special place in my heart for being a pioneer on the chess youtube front.

So, who is this dude who just beat Caruana? On a scale of one to Wesley So, what have been the projections for Zherebukh's career. I've barely heard of him, but I don't follow chess all that closely.

White mates in two.

Spoiler:
Got this quickly by lucking into the thought process of "It'd be funny if there was a mate by forcing en passant; oh wait, yeah that's a mate." On another day I might have never got to that idea.

Spoiler:
Somehow too easy despite the e.p. because White can hardly give check otherwise. Cute though :-)

Wesley So playing like a machine, won a great game today and on his way to probably winning the US Championship.

Unbeaten in 60+ games, having won the Sinquefield Cup, Olympiad, London and Tata Steel. Other than Magnus, I can't remember anyone else going on a similar streak.

Wesley So is like a buzzsaw. Destroys everything that's in his way.

Any tips on weighing castling options? My general philosophy is to keep my castling options open as long as possible with a few exceptions: I'm playing the kings indian defense vs oddball openings, or when I'm on the attack in an open ruy lopez and I want to get my kingside rook involved. Besides that, I'll castle if and when I feel it's necessary. Occasionally, I get into an opening that doesn't present any obvious attacks; sort of an opening zugswang. I'll castle and solidify my position.

I'm guessing there's some next level stuff that I'm not aware of. Thanks.

I find this is much more easily accomplished by the side with the black pieces.

Doesn't mean it can't be done by white!

Now I'm wondering what is the earliest instance White has played Kd7 in a GM level game.

At the Reykjavik Open today, Sopiko G. (Mrs. Anish Giri), rated 2363, had just played 17...Ng3 against GM Stefansson (2566).

Although Stockfish likes White after either 18. Rg1 or 18. Nxg3, Stefansson decided to play 18. f4??...after which Sopiko just captured the Rook, and the GM resigns.

There's a famous example of White moving the king onto the 7th rank (not d7, though) at move 25, to the 8th at move 28, with queens still on, and proceeding to win the game

Sorry that the picture is on a bit of a slant as well. I came across it by surprise and took it while catching up to a walking tour I was on.
