Prodigy Watch Update: Alireza Firouzja is at it again!

Aeroflot A section, seeded 91 out of 98, almost half the field is rated 2600+. He's tied for 9th-19th on a +2 score of 4.5/7, with three GM scalps plus a fourth win over a 2600 IM. Performance rating over 2700 with two rounds to go. Even if he loses his last two games he'll be coming out of this with his second GM norm. And in four more months, he'll turn 14!

Was the tournament organised by FIDE? If so, there's ****ery going on.

My default assumption of FIDE by now is, guilty until proven innocent.

So hilarious! I love his live videos. And ya, that one was especially strange since it was a 20 yr old account that seems to only recently have started cheating. His anti-cheater strategy of surviving until 30 seconds left and then wrecking them when they have to play for themselves seems very effective. And just in general, his passion, sarcasm, and chess tilt really crack me up!

I'm sure this is old hat to veteran chess players but just had my earliest opponent-resignation ever.

1. e4 d5
2. exd5 Qxd5
3. Nc3 Qc6
1-0

I lost a really expensive chess book. I'm sad about it, I don't know if I can get another copy.

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

How come every time they use the Russian defense vs me it goes like this?:

1) Oh the Russian, ok.
2) Maybe I'll learn something new.
3) Knight takes pawn, Knight takes pawn.
4) Queen sets up discovered check.
5) No more Queen for my opponent.

----

Also, I actually found an opponent that wanted to get all the way into an open Ruy Lopez today:

1) e4, e5
2) Nf3, Nc6
3) Bb5, a6
4) Ba4, b5
5) Bb3, Nf6
6) d4, Nxe4
7) dxe5 and I say in chat, "Solid opening, but do you know Ruy Lopez's middle name?"

Game is still going now after 7)....Bc5 and 8) I castled.

kind of hesitant to say since my great grandfather wrote it- ie it has my last name in it. He lived in a satelitte countryof the ussr and was a notable historical chess composer and instructor. My chess game probably would have him rolling in his grave.

Wesley So is the best player in the world right now.

I fully expect him to win the US Championship, and ultimately to dethrone MAGNUS.

I don't know if he'll beat Magnus in a match but I think there's a big chance he'll overtake him in the FIDE ratings soon.

I'm a big Wesley fan but I think it's unlikely he'll overtake Magnus. Probably just light a not of a fire under him and Magnus will reel off a bunch of dominating tournaments.

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Karjakin is certainly not as good as Magnus, and he nearly beat him. Wesley may not have to actually be better to win a 12 round match.

If they were to meet next year, I'd bet that Magnus will only be a very slight favorite.

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Sure, but should Wesley have the best shot to beat him a year from now out of the top guys? I'm not so sure. We'll see, though. Everyone should be kind of gunning for him this year - they've heard how amazing he is for a few months now and should be sick of it.

Nope. 10/0. I'm just not very good at chess, so neither are my opponents.
