[Event "Nassau Chess Club Class Tournament"]
[Site "Mineola, NY"]
[Date "2010.06.7"]
[Round "1"]
[White "Pyramidscheme - 1858"]
[Black "Villian - 1824"]
[Result "1-0"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 d6 3. f4 e6 4. Nf3 Nc6 5. a4 Nge7 6. Bc4 d5 7. Ba2 d4 8. Ne2 Nb4 9. Bc4 d3 10. Bb5+ Nec6 11. Bxc6+ Nxc6 12. cxd3 Qxd3 13. O-O c4 14. Ng3 Bc5+ 15. Kh1 O-O 16. Ng5 h6 17. Rf3 Qd7 18. Nh3 b6 19. Nh5 Ne7 20. Rg3 Bd4 21. Qc2 Kh8 22. e5 Nf5 23. Rg4 Bb7 24. Ra3 Qd5 25. Ng5 hxg5 26. Rh3 Nh6 27. Nf6 {1-0}

Once again I play a lousy opening but make up for it with my middle game and the errors of fellow <2000's. Why he didn't play 13... QxP I'll never know. Comments on how I can play this opening better or better moves during the game for either side. I'm positive he is lost after 25.... hxg5. 26... Nh4 still loses (in even more cool fashion)

Game mostly just posted because the end is pretty.

I thought this was cool. Didnt see it during the game, but theres a move here that instawins. Might be easy for some people but its the kind of thing my brain doesnt even consider.

Also, lc question: when is an opening named after whites actions and when is it named after blacks? For example, 1. f4 is birds opening, while e4 c5 is the sicilian defense.

I'm assuming Black to move.

Spoiler:
Rc2. Took me a little time to spot.

correct. Super obvious once I saw it but not something I would ever get in a blitz game

Doesn't the white spot in the bottom left hand corner mean it is white to move?

I thought the answer was Bxd5.

From a correspondence game - what should my next move be here? Im obviously winning, but I think this next move is the difference between winning in 20 moves and winning in 45. Candidate moves I think are nxc4, which i dont like because i think it relieves a lot of pressure, d6 or d5 freeing the lsb, and maybe theres some funky knight move that wins. I ended up playing d5, just wondering if it was the best move

d5 and d4 on the next move.

Well spotted in a blitz game if it's what I think it is.

Spoiler:
Nxd5. If Qxd5, Qc2+ then Qb2#. If exd5, Rxe1+ followed by Qc1+ and Rxc1#. If White ignores the knight, I dont see a forced path to victory but things are going to get ugly after Nc3+.

live rybka vs stockfish match. 48 games with 24 matches. A opening is chosen for them and each engine gets the white and black pieces from that position. Currently rybka is crushing SF.

lost this game today:
http://www.ficsgames.com/cgi-bin/sho...72;action=show

just such a disappointment after having such a crushing position. I will eventually play chess well . The worst part was this was G/60 so missing something like 7...Qc4+ is just unexcusable

Hoya, if those clock readings are right I'd say your biggest mistake in that game was having 44 minutes left at the end of it.

agree, you played virtually every move too fast, including some big mistakes. If you want to play like that, play 15 0 instead.

The long time was just so I could play on my phone at work, make a move andnot have to worry since I could just glance down. I am going to start playing slower chess though as I think blitz has taught me sone very bad habits.

also, care to elaborate on these? I can think of a couple obvious ones but I always find myself surprised by what the better players see
