A couple of recent dreams, the first I can recall involving chess.
dream #1 (sometime last week)
I was in a tournament of some sort. I look at the board to realize I have a completely lost position; Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi had a crushing attack against my king.
Suddenly I realize the event is half chess and half eating competition. Seizing the opportunity, I quickly go through some ramen noodles and follow that with a bowl of rice. I sense the discomfort of eating too fast, but remind myself I cannot win at the board.
As I finish the rice, I look around to see other competitors laughing. I had won after all!
dream #2 (last night)
I am set to play Magnus on the next round of a tournament. It didn't look like a club or anything, it seemed like we were in someone's backyard.
As I sit down I realize the board is all weird; the light and dark squares have nearly the same color, and the pieces are disproportionately tall and oddly designed. I consider complaining, since the setup was so bad we might as well be playing blindfolded.
But then I realize I have a bigger problem: I didn't have a scoresheet, and I had to give it to the tournament director by the end of the round. However, since I was already sitting, I wasn't allowed to get up to grab one.
So I thought "great, I'm playing Magnus on this wacky chess set and I'm going to have to recall the game by memory and hurry to write it down before the round ends or else I'm disqualified".
As soon as the game starts I look at the position and all of Carlsen's pieces are around my king. They're not even in the squares, but in an actual circle. It looked as if a kid was playing with the pieces "we have your king surrounded!". So I obv lost that one.
