Indeed pretty crazy game.. I am sure that engines will destroy Bxd6, but over the board I thought it was pretty interesting. If I retreat with the bishop I thought I don't have that much of an advantage anymore, and my opponent is the kinda guy who loves to play those types of closed positions. With all that in mind, Bxd6 seemed like the best practical choice. He defended well I thought, then I thought I surely have to be losing, I assume he probably missed some winning line, after which I had enough resources for a draw.

FIRE ON THE BOARD

lol Fire on the board

imagine if someone just lit a chess piece on fire in a tourney game.

Tournament Director: WTF are you doing!?!?!
Player: Shirov made me to do it.

I saw an article once about some chess game played with lit candle chess pieces. Puts a real time limit on the game.

Were they scented candles?

I think we just invented Aroma Chess.

Ouch. YNW got blowed up pretty good today. Still having a good tournament through three rounds.

Or maybe not. I should have more faith.

Is the game still going? I'm at work and can't check, what's going on?

I can't tell is this is dead draw or really ugly for YNW:

He's black against a 2353 IM. If he holds this draw, his chances of at least an even tournament are pretty good.

Gotta try ...Rc8 I think.

38...Rc8 39.Rd7 Rc1+ 40.Kh2 Be4 played

Might have to give the B for 2Ps?

(41.b7 Rc2 42.Kg3 Rxg2 43.Kf4 Bxb7)

41.b7 Rc2 42.Bd4+ Kh6 43. Kg3 g5 44.Bf2 Rb2 played

Didn't like 42.Bd4+, why not hold that move in reserve?

* Drawn after 44...Rb2. Good save by Black imo.

It seems this video only disgusses a bishop that can attack f7. Still if anybody is interested go ahead and watch. Maybe it is too easy now. Black will get mated or something.

what can I say, sometimes resourcefulness >>> being actually good at chess

in any case, I hope I am at least pleasing the spectators this tournament

YNW with another nifty draw today against a GM. He's racking up results against the top-rated players in the field, so presumably he has a chance to score very well when he swings around to the lower half.

He's at 2.5/4 now, correct? If he can pick up a couple of wins that 5.5/9 IM norm is very possible.

Tried to pressure for a win but he played accurately I thought, so draw is not bad. Was pretty tired after first 3 games because they were all long and emotionally draining, so relatively quick draw not the worst thing in the world Huuuuuuuuuge game tomorrow, gotta play solid chess (lol hah who am I kidding, in before multiple sacs and rollercoaster game)
