Was it covfefe that you drank? Do you think Magnus should adopt your drink? Congrats on the chess crushing!

There's a recent post on reddit about the current rating list (with 6 players at 2800 and above).

For those who don't frequent reddit, there's a bot that reads images that are posted and generates a diagram and a link for the position on lichess.

The bot interpreted the screenshot from 2700chess

as the following position

I don't know why, but that made me laugh really hard.

Kramnik's staying power is impressive, but what's most surprising is how close the top 10 (or 8) are at the moment.

I almost think the computer wars are more interesting than the hunt to unseat MC.

MC's blitz rating is phenomenal vs the top (human) players.

Lol @ Naka losing a won rook endgame in style; the underpromotion to a knight didn't even net him half a point this time. (That was in his Black game vs Mamedyarov in blitz Rd. 16 of Paris GCT.)

Go, MVL!! No matter the final result, the Rd. 16 victory over the salty Magnus was an exciting rollercoaster

MC totally justified, imo. Interviewer was obliviously giving him a hard time.

Hello chess friends,

I want to buy a digital chess clock and board/pieces that are relatively portable but not a travel set. I want it to be a bit of an all-purpose, flexible set that I can take wherever and play, but I don't need to be able to play on a plane or in a car or anything like that. Any recommendations? The features I want in the clock are to set an increment and to have different times for different players, I assume both of those are standard.

Edit: And obviously I want Staunton pieces or very similar, no novelty nonsense.

This is pretty standard for what is used in the U.S.

You can get the board, pieces, bag, and clock all separately, but some stores might package them. There are many variations for the bag, but basically they all hold a roll up board, with compartments for set and clock.

For clock DGT North American. Best clock for that price range by far ($35-45). Lots of people will recommend ridiculously over-priced clocks like the Chronos (almost always over $100). You don't need that. Get a DGT NA and never think about having to buy a clock again for $40. And yes, those features you mentioned are standard on any good clock (there are super bargainy $20 clocks that don't have those features, but steer clear of those anyway).

Thanks, unfortunately those are only sold in the US it seems, would be $US65 to buy it and have it shipped here. Might buy it anyway.

Are any of the other DGT clocks good?

I can get some LEAP brand one for like 20 bucks Australian (as opposed to 85 to ship the DGT here) so idk.

This should really be in the high content thread but I don't think we have one. I know this forum is completely dead but perhaps not everyone has seen that Kasparov is coming back to competitive chess in St. Louis for the rapid/blitz this year.

Pretty exciting. I am trying to figure out if I need to somehow convince my wife to let me go there for a day or two to watch the GOAT (and check out the chess club in general) in person. Perhaps a tough sell since our daughter is still at a pretty needy age and I used up my illusory trip credit going to the Las Vegas National Open last month.

Also black making the first move. Somehow non chess players always mess up completely when trying to look smart by doing chess. They never seem to even know the rules.

Wow, that is impressively poorly set up!

Btw, have we discussed the perpetual chess podcast?

It's pretty amazing. I probably just randomly assume everyone must instantly know about it and listen to it. I've listened from the beginning and it only really has gotten better (well, depending on guest as that makes a pretty big difference).

Ended up buying the DGT NA, thanks, ended up getting it for like 60 US delivered. Seems like a good product.

While I'm here, I just achieved my highest ever rating on lichess (3 min blitz, which is all I play on there). Only 1896 so not much of a brag, but still a PB.

Thanks! Also I'm playing a 15 min 2 sec increment tournament right now and I just won my match with more time on clock than I started with lol. Felt kinda bad, my opponent was a beginner and wandered into the 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. Qg4 line of the Vienna. I've won so many games in that line.
