Chess.com Membership
Hey, I'd like to know if any of you have the Chess.com membership?
If so, which level of member and do you think it is worth it and why?
I interested in the game analyzer, what exactly does it do or say? Is it a good tool or really great tool?
Thanks for your input!

Re: Chess.com Membership
Hi, you should just probably ask about this in the 2+2 team thread since it's about the site as well. I actually don't know what the game analyzer does, but I wouldn't expect any mindblowing output. I haven't yet seen an algorithm that is able to create really instructional commentary.

Re: Chess.com Membership
I'm a chess.com Diamond member and really enjoy it. The diamond membership is their highest level (still somewhere around $100/year, very cheap for what it offers) and includes access to all of their features. I mainly use it for videos, but their Tactics Trainer is the best on the internet, hands down. I'd highly recommend getting a membership.

Re: Chess.com Membership
I've never used the game analyzer, what is it? Is it a computer analysis feature or are you referring to the Game Explorer tool?

Re: Chess.com Membership
The analyzer is pretty cool, but the Mentor is amazing. Vids are great too.
For 14 bucks a month, it's a steal IMO.

Re: Chess.com Membership
If by game analyzer you mean the computer analysis feature: it is worthless. No real analysis, it just (seemingly randomly) attaches ?! and ? to some moves and it doesn't give any meaningful commentary, just the first line of the engine evaluation. Getting the pgn and running it through Houdini yourself is a far better way if you want to learn something from your games.
Don't get me wrong: I think the site is worth the money, but only for the vids, the mentor, the tactics trainer and the tournaments; not for the computer analysis.

Re: Chess.com Membership
Plus, you can get a free 10-day trial and 30-day MBG, that's ~6 weeks you don't have to pay for if you don't like it. Pretty good deal imo.

Re: Chess.com Membership
I recently started using the Ipad app (love it BTW), and after not signing up for a plan for a while I was offered a 10 day trial, so why not try it out?
IMO it doesn't seem too expensive, haven't yet watched any videos but I've been enjoying the tactics trainer. When I was on the free version I only got 3 tactics per day, which I always took, but now that I have unlimited I haven't been using it.
