My first post in this thread...

Has anyone here played online for money? Also, to the OP, would you be very against playing in live tournaments for money? There may be some local chess club near you that hosts such things fairly regularly. That is, if you're just looking to play chess for money.
...got the response...

Cheers Harry.

P.S the way this thread has gone i think i should insult you..... buttface
...which was therefore useful and served the purpose to give the OP what he wanted. Seriously, if you're having trouble figuring out how to put the posts in chronological order, I don't mind talking you through this.

Public Profile -> User Lists -> Add to Ignore List

If you're using firefox, an even better way is this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7023

It'll just make their posts, other people's quoting of their posts, etc disappear.

Its pretty funny to see how many cheatos there are there even though there is no money involved

Btw I dont know what they accomplish by resetting the players ELO.
Next time you play this guy, hes rated 1000 points lower and you lose a million points by playing him

Unless you are a titled player you shouldn't play for cash, especially on the internet. In contrast to Poker it is simply very unlikely to run into a rich donk.

True enough, but the much bigger problem is the ease of computer cheating.

I think it's kind of crazy to play for $ regardless of who you are or who you're playing. A few years back even a GM (Garompon/Pablo Zarnicki) was busted cheating in the Dos Hermanas online tournament. And he was a super active vendor/coach on ICC meaning he had a whole lot to lose.

His current finger notes are kind of amusing:

1: Pablo Zarnicki
2: I challenge any chess player to play Heads Up on Poker.
3: I challenge any poker player to play chess.
4: Former World Ch Junior in chess
5: Actual World Ch on line Poker in NL 6 Max
6: Course of chess lessons 5K 10 hours
7: Course of Poker lessons 10K 10 hours

Countdown til a vehement defender of Zarnicki's honor appears.

This is pretty laughable, for two reasons:

1. I don't think anyone in their right mind would pay $500/hour for chess lessons, even from a GM. If I had money to burn, I wouldn't pay more than $300/hour for lessons from a goddamn top 10 player.

2. $1000/hour for poker lessons is more reasonable, but only if the coach is crushing high stakes. If Zarnicki were crushing high stakes, he'd be a better poker player than a chess player, and given that poker lessons are in much higher demand than chess lessons, it would make no sense for him to charge only twice as much for poker lessons. If he thinks his chess lessons are worth $500/hour and he's better at poker than he is at chess, he should be charging $2500/hour+ for poker lessons.

lmao i've seen those notes.

Yes I've known (of) Garompon for a long time and used to interact with him sometimes. In the beginning he was a POS and now he's still a POS I see.

I'm not surprised AT ALL that he was cheating in Dos Hermanas... I wonder if he ran into Nakamura in that event, which would be funny cuz each year when Naka loses he complains that he ran into a comp cheater.

Naka: If there were no comp cheaters, I'd win every time.
