Re: *** Chess BBV ***
Bleh I played so badly in yesterday's Dos Hermanas qualifier. Lost pretty badly to two 3k+ dudes but was still doing ok with 5/7, then played 2 really bad games and dropped material and points to lower rated players my 3 0 play and openings are rustyyyy

I really think this is also just not right.
The nonincrement clock accomplishes nothing but help to take a significant chunk of chess skill out of the game, and instead replace it with mouse skills.

Dude your mouse skills are fine, you bragged about making 27 moves in like 3 seconds. It's not mouse skills, it's that your opponents are actually moving and thinking faster than you when you end up having much less time than them. Just move fast early in the game and you don't have to worry about it so much. If you don't want to, then play with increment or play standard time control.

I would say Canadians tend to lean more towards hypermodern/unusual openings as a result of the influence of Suttles and the top players who followed him (Hergott, Day, Spraggett to some extent). Try to come to Canada and play 5 games with white without facing the Pirc.
Here in Costa Rica, I would say they tend towards side variations of mainline openings that give more open positions and tactics.

There aren't many situations where you can make 27 moves in 3 seconds, or it wouldn't be a brag, now would it?
My purpose in blitz isn't to get the biggest rating. I play to try to improve my game and ability. If I wanted the highest blitz rating I'd go play/master the stonewall, BDG and other bull**** that works great for creating superficial but time consuming threats. So playing brainlessly in the early stages is kind of pointless.
I'd love to play increment/standard but almost no strong players do, likely and paradoxically for the same reason.

Just frustrated that I've had an inordinate amount of games decided by the clock lately. Even had an IM play for a flag with times of like 22 to 17 seconds in a dead drawn opposite bishop game where there was nothing left to do but move the pieces back and fourth but the possibility of randomly pushing a pawn en prise meant slow moves. Pretty tilt inducing.
Guess that's my fault for letting an IM get a drawn position and not moving 5 seconds faster huh.

Re: *** Chess BBV ***
Also, I just realized how my post might have been interpreted. I was not suggesting that blitz is about superficial threats/etc. Quite the opposite. The top blitz players obviously play a better 5 0 game than 99.99% of the world plays in a 3 hour game.
I was saying that some stupid opening like the BDG or whatever would almost certainly be better for "MY" short term results right now simply because I'd likely never be in time trouble as the positions and themes would be extremely similar each game.

So you play with the honorable intentions of using it to improve your game and ability, not to get the highest rating possible, yet you go off cursing your opponents, scaring your girlfriend and tilting when you lose because of your clock? Did running out of time somehow hurt your goal of improving your chess ability? Something very contradictory going on here...

Learn the openings that you actually play better? Eventually you should be able to move faster once you've played enough games. It's sort of silly to act like you have to play some stupid opening and that'll make you better at blitz almost instantly.
FWIW if I played the Colle,or the stonewall attack, or any other number of "simple" openings, my results would go down quite drastically I'm sure.

You're taking more than a few liberties of hyperbolic interpretation there aren't you? I mentioned some of the things you said, but you took them to a whole new level. hahaha
And no, getting flagged doesn't really hurt directly hurt my goals at all. But it'd be nice to play out some of the positions that aren't trivially decisive either way. And keeping my rating low makes it less likely I get paired against strong opponents which makes it more difficult to improve.
