I often find losses much more interesting than wins, even when not the most glorious. That game in particular I learned a ton from.

Even though my opponent didn't really punish me for it, my idea with the early d5 was simply bad. He could have really made me pay for it with 11. Nc5 Bc6 which I saw figuring: ok, he has some initiative but my position is rock solid and I'll be consolidating to easy victory in one or two moves. But then I did not see 12. Ng5!! with an irresistible attack. For example 12. .. Nd7? can be met with 13. Ncxe6 +-

Nope, just plain ole amoxicillan - an antibiotic.

More side effects: agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior

Vs IM Otipap, IM with 2600 5-min at peak. 2400 at the time.

Feels great to have a nice hack n slash like that with a very good player and come out on top. Obv we were both running crazy low on time at the end. 43. Ref6# would have been a proper ending to the game. As would have 44. Ref6#

I quite liked 25. b6. I love moves that like that that just barely work. If [almost] any piece on the board was moved even a single square away, it wouldn't work. The entire board works together to make that move possible so I think that has some sort of inherent beauty even if it isn't the most complex move.

Absolutely disgusted that I somehow missed 29. Ra3! +- when black can happily resign. 29. Nf6?? is pretty terrible.

Kf8 34. Qh5 1-0

I thought it was an interesting game. I was in alot of trouble after 23. Ng4 as I had overestimated my pressure even though it ended up working out. He played well.

I guess I should study it more in case I get a chance to play it tomorrow night in my local club championship. I've been playing there for over 25 years and have played all the top players literally dozens of times, so this will be a good surprise for those who would have been expecting another main line Najdorf from me.

Definitely do this. Jay Bonin might not fall into it, but I imagine a lot of people who are playing in it might!

Not fall into it? What do you mean? I think the opening is 100% sound.

As in, I'm not hoping for any particular variation when I play it, although I'm perfectly content for people to hang themselves quickly. But it's not like I'm just hoping he doesn't play "xxxx".

I think he meant not playing Bd3 and dropping the knight.

Fortunately for me (Black) my opponent is an idiot. This had to put him on tilt. Oh yeah, I am teh suck and gave him like 4 turns to fork my knights.

Still playing way way too passive in slow games.

I saw the tactic, but it's incredibly complex so I decided to go with something more simple. I don't think this is a good mentality. But I still can't decide whether I should have played the tactic though, even after some help from the silicon monster. It's just so crazy. Here's one line:

1. Nxc6 Qxc6 2. bxc axb 3. Bxb5 Qc8 4. Rxa8 Qxa8 5. c7+ Nfd7 6. Qc5 e5 7. Qxb6 Bb4+ 8. Kf1 exf4 9. Bc6 O-O! 10. Bxd7 Rc8! 11. g4! f3!! =

Super complex positions with forced variations going near twenty moves is kind of scary. On the other hand black has to defend super accurately to even stand a chance of drawing and I think I would have handled the position much better than my opponent and probably won quite quickly. On the other other hand O-O ensures a constant small edge where white maintains winning chances but black's defensive task is more 'simple' in the quality of moves he needs to play.

I guess O-O is the choice against a good opponent and Nxc6 against a weaker opponent.
