That sucks, the position still looks like at least an easy draw (probably even a white win) to me after sacing the rook for the b-pawn. But certainly hard to readjust there

Lmao wow, but as said, you sack the rook for his passed pawn and you can win the g+h pawns with a secure draw + winning chances.

i first planned on being a smartass about that too but didnt bother. e8n b2 re1 rxe8 rb1 rf8+ (or maybe kb3 and if kxg6 rg8+) or something like that looks like a dead draw to me

Except that after e8N b2 Re1 Rxe8 white plays Rxe8 and after b1Q Ra8+

Yeah no doubt about it. Looking at it sober the plan for white is easy to spot, but at the time it wasn't happening. The horror of seeing your essentially forced win not happen due to an impossible underpromotion was just too much to take. My play rapidly degenerated, and I lost very quickly.

The good news is I have found the setting in babaschess and have set it back to auto-queen, so this tragedy will never happen again. How it was set to the wrong thing in the first place I will never know.

I won 3/4 games against a guy who kept getting a pawn on me in an unorthodox opening - (A01) -

first game he's white and he plays 1. e3 and 2. b3 - he sets up those fianchettos and bishop cross lines and I think I dropped a pawn - I play something similar to a pirc/modern and barely squeeze out a win

2nd game starts 1. e4 and he playes e6 followed by 2 b6 and the same idea - I think I hung a pawn here and got ahead by a knight later but missed his counterplay

3rd game - same story - 1. e3 but this time I try to establish a solid pawn center with 1 e5 and 2 d5 - again, hung a pawn in the ensuing opening complications but managed to promote a pawn to have a Q + 2 passed pawn ending vs a N/R + 2 pawns ending and was able to tactically take it down

4th game - same damned 1...e6 and 2. b6 - I'm able to protect my central pawns better this time - he goes on a queen rampage and we're even material but I'm going to be forced to trade queens with an isolated e pawn in a crap position - I take his queen and am waiting for his reply - a couple times he's had 50 second disconnects and after 25 seconds, I try a win on disconnect and get it - that was my favorite game -

This is only good news until you need to underpromote to avoid stalemating your opponent and you post here cursing yourself for having the setting on auto-queen.

Well now I know where the setting is, so in time pressure I can find it and change it if I ever need to underpromote.

Anywho... Variance:

I'm black, and it continues:

... Be5 Re7+?? Kxe7 {White resigns}????

pawns just get in the way. shove em up the board and let the opponent think you care what happens to them, it'll keep him distracted!

what rating are you toni? and what was the time control in that game? was like watching 10cent 20 cent limit omaha (no offence, good job )

ahha no offence taken... i'm like 950 or something on fics but i know i'm getting better... i'm pretty sure most of that u were watching was when i was down to last minute which was prob around 50% of my moves. and trust me... watching 10 cent 20 cent omaha is better. My prob is i get good positions, like i've analyzed my last 10 games and 9/10 i was up right around 2 pawns going into end game but i always **** it up because i play with strict time controls and i always take alot of time getting to that good position. Some how i play 24 tables but i'm really slow at chess. So i bought an end game book last night and have begun to read it. Srsly if the game ended at the middle i would be a decent player. Although I do have to admit, that was some pretty sweet play by me. Although Rybka's nasty 13. Nf5 Bxb5 14. Nd6+ Ke7 15. Qf3! would have been sick. 12. .. c5?? is just such a terrible move for such a decent player to make. I used to have so many problems with the queens gambit accepted playing the more traditional Nf3 stuff. I think 3. e4 fits my style much better.
