Hmm, the 1. g4 d5 2. Bg2 Bxg4 3. c4 dxc4 4. Bxb7 line is intriguing. Theoretically almost dead even according to Fritz too. (I can't imagine a 1200 type player passing on the free pawn with development and playing 2. ... c6 very often). Of course after 3. ... e6 I don't like it as much. Meh, nothing looks too good here, unless black screws up, but that's likely enough. I'm going to try it!

I dropped my queen. Then I dropped a bishop. Then I mated the ****er. Score one for g4!

No way. Have you ever taught 1100 players? Maybe you just disagree with my post on this.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean about the "intricacies of black's spatial advantage." He just has free development, good central presence, and a weakness free position.

btw I think it's funny that we're arguing about the Grob's expected score in games between 1100 players

In a live tournament 5 minute blitz game, my 1800 rated opponent, who was a known Grob enthusiast with over 30 years of USCF rated play, played the following:

1.g4 c6 2.f4 e5 3.f5 Qh4#

After I mated him, he was just stunned for a second, then he said "That's the second time I did that!"

Also, RE: QuickFetus - I think BobJoeJim made the best point there is. An 1100 isn't even going to play 2. .. c6 hardly ever so the whole thing is very academic.

Oh god Neitzche was right. I learn a little bit of opening theory and next thing I know I'm crushing a 2300 in the botvinnik semi-slav 30 moves in without playing a single new move.

i remember how i beat a 2100 rated opponent in the dragon with a line until mate right from Chris Ward's book except for some minor move order changes. Felt like one of my sweetest wins even if my own input was minimal.

What is proper etiqutte here? This is a 60/60 simul with IM milanovic Vojislav on the ICC.

Felt like we had a close game going but then he starts getting into some time pressure. I assume is the reason for his blunder 28. Rd8.

A few moves later he's down to 10 seconds and doesn't even bother moving and just asked for draw. Should I just flag him there? I don't believe he was going to make his next move so I couldn't stall my time (i had plenty) for him to finish other games.

Anyways the game.

definitely flag him. You're probably winning the final position, the only person being rude here is him.

What time control was he playing? If he had a 60s increment too then it's his own problem to keep time for all the games.

When I read the post I thought it would be some ridiculous rook ending where it's probably drawn but unclear enough for either side to play on. In this position it's not even an issue, you wouldn't accept a draw from anyone else here so it's not like you are just taking advantage of his time trouble.

lol, does "walter" on ICC have issues? I played him a game in the QGA. Gave away a pawn early on and had a dominating position, blundered in the endgame and gave the game to him. He tossed a few words after the game, I retorted.

And he's just totally lost it since then with tons of barely coherent messages bragging to me about his girl, "a well known topmodel" and other some such. Never seen somebody go on chess tilt so hard, and after WINNING. lol

Sorry, meant to post a real suggestion after that but got distracted. You have 2 goals in this position:
  1. Run that passed g pawn up to queen
  2. Slow black's passed a pawn from it's rush to queen

The specifics aren't super important in this position imo but you should know that rook + pawn(s) vs rook + pawn(s) are pretty darn drawish. I'd personally play 1. Rd8 Kb7 2. Re8 a4 3. Re1 a3 4. g5 etc. Probably a draw but this sort of idea should give black ways to screw up.

draw. Nothing wrong with that line, I just recommended one that gave black a chance to lose. A draw is almost certainly the correct result from that position.
