Or if they want to try some gamesmanship stuff where they say j'adoube (as always) then touch a piece to see how the opponent reacts before deciding whether to make the move or not.

I'm guessing the referee would put a stop to this pretty quickly, but was wondering if there was any rule against j'adoube abuse.
There's a rule against annoying the opponent, which would likely cover it. Realistically it sounds like a silly waste of mental energy that would in no way worth the benefit of the one time in ten thousand where you avoid making a fingerslip.

Yeah that makes sense. I didn't know there was a rule against annoying the opponent, but there kind of has to be I suppose.

The position was technically winning for Levon, with or without j'adoube.

Apparently Levon mixed up the position - with the pawn on h4 it's drawn (but requiring accurate defense), but with the pawn on g4 White would have been winning.

St. Patrick's Day is an exception

I loved it how Alexandra said 'Oy-oy-oy!', which means roughly 'Oops-oops-oops!' in Russian.

It looks like the winning method demonstrated by Levon wasn't that winning after all.

Btw, Alexandra is a babe

Nah, like all the girls these days, she just memorizes thousands of outfit combinations found by a search engine.

My friend thinks Aronian may have been trying not to stick it to Naka by pointing out his major error in a drawn position.

As a low-rated player, the lesson I'm taking here is that rook endgames are essentially impossible.

I'm pretty sure players of all ratings would think that too. Maybe except Magnus.

Aronian is just the master of trashtalking. His analysis in the postgame-show seemed to be rather convincing, so Miro and Sasha didn't dare to dispute it, or let's say, they didn't want to ask questions that may leave them looking like "children".

Sasha got replaced by "Ne-pom-ni-she", at least for today.

My predictions:

Svidler-Caruana = (forced) draw
Karjakin-Aronian = draw
Naka-Topa = 1:0
Giri-Anand = 1:0 (although it's close: 55% win, 45% draw)

Guess I overestimated Giri once again. I thought he is a grinder with white and would keep it alive until Anand blunders, but of course he bailed out made a draw on the first possibility.

To be fair, he admitted that he got caught out of prep by Anand and didn't want to risk having to face an engine in a complicated position.

Wow Topalov is showing some fantastic ideas in today's game. Will be a pity if it doesn't work.

Topa's idea was absolutely awesome and it's just a case of tough luck that it didn't work.

In the other game we somehow know already that Svidler won't be able to convert.

Once again Peter has technical problems. Karjakin for instance is very strong in R+B vs. R+N, so I am sure he would have scored the full point easily.

There was at least a draw available for black at move 31. It took me about 15 tries before I guessed correctly.

By not appearing [to the post-game press conference], he breached two important Candidates Tournament regulations governing player attendance at press conferences.

As a result he will be fined 10% of his eventual tournament winnings.

LOL what a complete ****head. Obviously he KNOWS he touched the king, otherwise he would have disputed the ruling harder in some fashion at the time and certainly would have watched the video later.

A draw would have been a fair result. It seemss that Topalov thought he deserved more and that's what led him to overpress.

And then he goes on to playing the victim of "Levon making it personal".

Showing some self respect and admitting he ****ed up would be the way to go. Not commenting on it, meh, whatever. But accusing his opponent for playing by the rules? Seriously, **** him.

He even tries to make it sound like he was the bigger man by letting it go!

And describing how long he "brushed" the king as "touching it for a second or two" is also wonderful. Two seconds is an eternity.
