Will definitely be the biggest upset in WCC since Euwe over Alekhine, but I think just like in that case, it's not as big an upset as people would think.

However, it's still possible for a finish similar to Kramnik-Leko, which is actually a reasonably good comparison in terms of playing styles. Universal positional player who grinds down opponents versus an indefatigable defender. Will pretty much come down to nerves I guess.

I was telling anyone that would listen that with each draw Carlsen will tilt more (esp. after not converting two big chances in a row) and start self-destructing - they kept saying "oh but look how Carlsen is manhandling him in every game, how is Karjakin going to generate any winning chances" - well, he doesn't have to when the opponent is on tilt.

Yes, I am the one laughing now. But also crying, because for *** sakes Karjakin is close to becoming a WCH, WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

But I also think that Magnus is now going to destroy him and win 7-5.

Karjakin should offer a draw tommorow every single move after move 30, just to annoy Carlsen.

Next World Championship cycle would be pretty interesting though if Karjakin is the one to beat.

Sick! I went to bed around move 20, being sure that draw would be agreed shortly.

They both don't deserve to hold the title after the 7-draw streak and Magnus's unacceptable salty behaviour.

But at least the match is going to be more interesting now, with Carlsen trying hard for a win.

If he ties the next 4 games 2:2, he'll end up with a 2835 rating, Caruana will be only 12 points away and might become the world's highest rated player on a good day

Yes, he was, to the best of my knowledge. It was good for him that his women didn't study his and Alekhine's games - otherwise they'd prefer Alexandre for sure. #shotsfired

Lol. George Koltanowski told me an "off the record" story once when I was interviewing him (he was a family friend) for some school project when I was a kid and then went on for about 5 minutes about how Capa was more interested in sleeping with women at tournaments than the actual chess. I wish I had asked for some kind of details, I'm sure they would have been amazing.

The best thing that can happen for chess popularity is a Karjakin win imo. It will make some minor headlines and more people may be interested in the game.

Also I'm curious how can such a strong player tilt because he can't get an early lead. Isn't part of being the best chess player in the world having enough psychological strength to overcome those problems ?

Beating Magnus in the Candidates is quite enough imo.

Yes, it is, but Magnus has been plateauing for many months, it just wasn't very noticeable because he chose not to show up to some major events like the Sinq Cup. Still, his relatively poor Olympiad performance (the barely salvaged games vs Sadorra and Smerdon who were both below 2600) was quite revealing. His tilt looks like an accumulated one from the previous tourneys.

To be at the very top, you have to absolutely hate losing. Some just don't handle it as well as others. Even Vishy was visibly grumpy after some losses and he has more class than anyone. Carlsen leans a little more to the Phil Helmuth side of things.
