From the chess.com rules page...

Quote:
Openings books and game databases may be consulted for Online (correspondence-style) Chess only
I have never used this option yet as I figured it would be against the rules. Is the analysis board they link to on the home page an option to use when playing through the games?

(correspondence/multiple days per move games)

So you can use chessbase (minus kibitzer) while you're playing the day/move games?

chessbase minus all engine-based helpers like these little arrows that point out threats...

the analysis board is there to analyse your games and positions, so of course it is allowed to use it. After all it's correspondence-type chess.

I have never in my life played 960... seems kind of interesting, not sure if I want to try it in a team match for my first experience though.

I went completely braindead in one of my 960 games.. seriously. 4 or 5 moves in and it might as well be gg. :/

JUst want to make sure everyone knows the castling rules in the 960 match. castling works like it does in regular chess where the king and rooks go on the same squares they would after castling in normal chess.

The "make your opponent fall asleep with expert endgame technique" line claims another victim.

Bonus question: what was my plan when i played 30. ...Qh3+?

Sorry for the completely off topic post but this seemed as good a place as any on here. Just got back into chess and trying to truly "learn" the game this time rather than just learn from playing. I know the basics (general theory, some openings) but am looking to start from the ground up. Are there any good online resources you guys would recommend? Again sorry for the off-topicness.

See the FAQ and several beginner threads, some are even active at the moment. If you still have unanswered questions after that proceed with them It's nice to see many newcomers/returning players on this forums recently.

On an another note, how exactly does one castle in Chess960? My king is next to the castling square and don't want to move just the king by accident when the time comes.

draw the K onto the R. I tried it out using the analysis board. Looks like chess.com has different procedures according to the situation.
Do you use "click to move"? Because otherwise you can't move anything by accident before you click "submit move".

hm yeah, I guess i could disable that to make sure castling works out correctly

I am willing to join. I'm RediJedi on Chess.com. Never played 960 but want to learn. Have played a ton of live blitz games though. Chess 960 sounds fun but complicated.
