Hi All. The next recommended move from here is 6/2 (black's dice). Why am I leaving all these fellows exposed?
I am guessing its a timing issue? If i don't get hit I will run out of moves pretty soon.
Also, if red hits me on the 7 or 8 point is it right to hit back if i can, or better o leave him alone and let him keep moving?

Positions where you are stuck behind a full 6-prime are weird and don't follow normal rules. Often, your situation is so desperately bad that you must hope for wild unlikely things, and make moves that allow them to happen.

Here black's only chance is to hit red after his prime breaks. But that isn't happening anytime soon. Which means that black may be forced to break his own board before hitting the hoped-for shot.

Basically, black is not far enough behind in the race. So he needs to get another checker hit, and maybe dance a couple times too. He hopes to force red to hit with a 3 or 2, or else break his prime.

In fact, I suspect that red should avoid hitting these blots if possible. For example, play 63 as 20/11 without hitting.

Aha. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

At this point Black trails in the race by 42 pips. For his 1-3 backgame to be well-timed (i.e. able to take a double), he needs to trail by about 75 pips or more. So he definitely needs to get a couple of men hit here to improve his game.

The normal play here would be 13/9 or 13/10 13/12, but right now 44 is a root number for Red (forces him to break his prime), so 6/2 looks slightly better.

According to current XGR+/XGR+ Large rollouts, 60 pips is a better ballpark for the point of last take in 1-3 backgame. Where 75+ pips come into play is when the leader has three points to clear in front of the forward anchor. With 5-7 points to clear it's 60. With four points to clear it's 65.

Very very interesting; I must say i love this game.

In these sorts of situations is there a rule of thumb to try to guestimate how many pips one needs to trail by depending on how the back game is set up?
I am guessing its tied closely to the average number of rolls the other guy has before breaking his prime?
