FIBS was easily the best site I could find before getting onto Grid and it doesn't require an invite.

Can somebody sponsor me for a GridGammon account? I have been wanting to play on there for years but do not know anybody that plays on there. I'm an avid backgammon player and I'm a very strong player. I know alot of pros play on GridGammon and would like to play against the best. I am not a dropper and I don't complain about the dice. Thanks

Who says you need a sponsor?

I downloaded the whole thing. It seems it expects that you already signed up with a nickname.

Apologies. As the title didn't appeal to me, I only read the posts on page 2.

But are there really sites that can play for money which is legit? How are you going to be paid for it? Are those not scam or whatsoever? Just wondering though because I haven't tried one even before.

I don't know of any where I would plunk down money, but it's always possible such a site would come along.

Even if the site were completely legit, however, most of your opponents would be either world-class players or (even worse) people using bots. So your chances of coming out ahead would be pretty slim.

I confirm that Backgammon 4 Money is a shady and scammy company. I am waiting for my withdrawal request for 5 months. They are masters of the same bull**** excuse "technical payment problems"

I used to play at a place called TrueMoneyGames which no longer exists. It was ideal for me - I could play friendly 5-point/7-point matches for $3 or $5 or whatever, which was exactly what I wanted.

There must surely be somewhere like this available, in 2016?

But I can't find it ... looks like TMG, and PartyGammon, and Play65 have all gone?

I tried to join BGRoom and got an error message saying they don't accept members from my country. I'm in the UK. I was astonished and emailed "Support" to ask if this can possibly be true, and got a reply saying Yes, they really don't accept UK players.

Getting information through Google is really difficult: so many of the websites are many years out of date.

Is there anywhere I can play low-stake games (I don't mind playing for $0.50 or $1, or whatever), where it's safe to pay in $100 by credit-card or PayPal, and there are large numbers of players and regularly available games, please?

Again - I know that people can cheat and use bots on these sites, and I don't need all the "health warnings". I'm just asking where I can play low-stake games?

Would be very grateful for any up-to-date information relevant to 2016, please - and thanks in advance for any replies.
u can play me in gridgammon.com

Any update on this thread. Desperately looking for somewhere other than backgammonformoney to play online backgammon for real money. It's not that I mind them taking my money if I could actually play a game of backgammon. However, the site is so full of bugs that every week there is a different reason why a game of mine crashes midway (irrespective of whether I am winning or loosing). Complain to them and they become really rude and basically tell you to stop bothering them.

Is there really no money to be made from operating an online backgammon for real money site that there are so few of them?

Why not just practice against the bots -- XG and Gnu? If you did find an online money site you'd be losing your money to them anyway, so why not practice against bots for free?

Because there's a certain excitement in knowing you are actually playing with real money and have the remotest chance of winning? And I really do have the money to lose like $3 a month or something when playing $0.10 games particularly when its something I enjoy

Come play at GreedyGammon. http://greedygammon.com
Your games are saved for analysis (gnubg sgf) and if you get tired of playing the bot, I can play you for 50c for 3 or 5 pt matches or whatever stakes you like. But it is only gentleman handshake deal.

GreedyGammon is a windows based desktop application that you must download and install. No Mac, no mobile. It runs nice on 1440 and 1920 size resolutions. Win7 or 10. It started out as a FIBS client back in the early 2000 (3dfibs/fibzilla) and evolved into its own server.

There aren't many players most just play the bot but it is designed to be configurable to run your own private server with your friends if you wish.

There is a support forum with more information
http://greedygammon.com/support/

Or read the introductory post here on this forum for GreedyGammon

I think that should make the point clearly right there. Though I am interested in what a 50c gentleman handshake only game is.
The only way I would play someone online would be if it was someone I trusted through gaming and play on a good server(like fibs), and on webcam. Essentially how they run the new online chess leagues.
