Question number one: are there any tactics one might employ (such as slotting), that are more likely to create a complex game, so giving you an extra edge?

Question number two: I've heard that you can end up with a lower PR playing weak players than playing experts, because in games against beginners you can find yourself in much more unfamiliar positions. Is this true? And if so, it is advisable to spend time playing xg beginner, as well as xg champion?

LOL...
1.The reason why they're called weak players is because you don't need to be creative (have tactics), you just need to play ABC and bet, bet, bet when you have it.

2. If you follow my first answer than you should not be in many unfamiliar situations against beginner, if you are, you not playing ABC!

1. In general, slotting plays in the early game will create much more complex positions than splitting plays, so it's a good tactic against weaker players.

2. Your PR should be noticeably higher in matches against weak players because you'll be seeing lots of positions that you would never see practicing against XG, or studying books and problems. However, your edge (your PR - their PR) will be much higher, so not to worry.
