Hi!

I have added several more improvements since last time I posted an update here. The latest addition is 'Training ground':

In your private database (requires an upgraded account) you can view this section which will display an overview of the amount of errors you have done in the matches you have uploaded. Level 1 starts with errors from -2.0 to -0.500 the next is -0.500 to -0.450 and so on. If you have made 10 or more errors that fall into the level 1 range you start at this level. If you score 80% or more in the challenge made on this level you can advance to the next.

Another interesting recent feature is an option to search for positions with the 'Pay now or later' position tag:

and also a 'Payback challenge' that uses these types of positions as source.

I have also fixed a .com domain so you can now use www.backgammonstudio.com as link to my site (Someone on a different forum didn't like the .tk free domain I was originally using).

I keep adding a lot of improvements, too many to list here so I have added a separate section of my site which lists improvements as I add them:

Some of the other recent additions to challenges (in addition to a lot of difficult challenges generated from matches) are:

Hitman - You can hit! Even hit two! Or go for positional improvement? What to do?
Bar brawl! - You're on bar: Are you brave enough to cube or will caution win you over?
Borderline bonanza! - How many borderline cube actions in a row can you do? (No TCTC!)

For all these challenges the user with the highest score is crowned Backgammon Studio Champion in that challenge. Hall (Norwegian top ranking player) is taking over most of these top spots!

Can anybody beat him? Easier said than done! :-)

Give it a try!

can you expand on how the upgraded features work?

For example:

how do you upload your matches? do you have to do one at a time?

does your program (XG?) analyze them for us?

How do you generate the errors by type (holding game, PVP, etc)?

Does the search for positions feature look through my own uploaded games?

Hi!

You can batch upload up to about 500 matches in one upload. I think this is a limitation on the file upload support in the browser.

The matches need to be analyzed with XG first.

Each position is tagged with all kinds of tags for later retrieval in position searches. Each also get a position type:

Opening game
Middle game
Holding game
End game
Back game
Bearoff
Priming game
Ace point game
Blitzing game
Containment game
Race
Prime vs prime
Proto back game

I have never found any established list of commonly agreed upon position types (Perhaps in some book I haven't read?...) but the above ones should be commonly accepted.

Other interesting tags that positions can get are the position tags and action tags:

When you switch to your private database the searches will be locating positions from your private database only. You can also specify that the different challenges should be using only your past errors as source:

Which can be quite fun!

this looks interesting.. but when you say "each position is tagged with all kinds of tags," I take it that we have to evaluate and then tag it ourselves, yes? I can't imagine XG or any other program is capable of doing such a thing by itself..

No the server tags all positions when a match is uploaded so this is all automatic. Today I added some more position tags:

Now you can specify the locations of outfield anchors when searching for positions. Suggested by Hall.

I'd like to think of this as one of the cooler parts of the server that you can do these kinds of searches. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll love it! :-)
