A common opinion among expert players is that in a tournament everyone is about equally favorite to win. Some voices claim that backgammon is about 70% luck. In that light, one might consider the idea to do research on some adaptive rule change. Examples are the roll-over option http://www.gamesandcasino.com/backga...r-strategy.htm, or the option to reset the cube if someone is not able to enter three times in a row.

PS. I am aware that this thread may not be in line with above Master Sticky, but in it there is mention of discretion and not of illicitness. Apart from that, most backgammon players will not be eager to devote themselves to chess, as it demands a lot of time to master.

The only rule change I like is the "Equal opening rolls" rule. It works like this - on the first roll say my opponent wins the opening win a 31 then the next game I get to play 31 as my opening roll. So you only roll every second game then both players play that roll. It stops the complaints about luck.

As clearly stated in the Master Sticky, threads about changing the rules "to take the luck out of the game" are not what this forum is for. The existing game has tons of skill, and blaming your poor results on bad luck is a guaranteed way to go nowhere.

Study hard and work hard and you'll find your luck miraculously gets better.
