Hello!

The score is 0-0 in a 7 point match. The cube is in the middle. What should White do?

I'd go with 14/8 6/2*, but it's just gut instinct at this point.

That was exactly my idea. But in the list of the best moves that is only rank 14. :O

Or maybe you go 21/15 21/17 to add some blocking points in the outfield?

What I don't understand with this move:

Closing 15 and 17 doesn't seem urgent because they are sooo far away from the opponent. But opening the 21 has immediate disadvantages when Black rolls 31, 32 or 33.

I think 21/17 could still be good as it blocks 55 for the back checker.

You're right that blocking the 15 now isn't useful.
15/9 then to avoid creating another blot?

I don't like using our only 6-point spare to hit loose on the 2. I would play something like 15 and 13 to cover the outfield

No, 21/15 21/17 is the correct move. I only don't really understand why.

Honestly these positions are basically impossible to play exactly correctly, but the idea is to move the rear checkers into coordination with one another to start building containment in the outfield. Your front position is too weak to fight him in your inner board.

I was a little surprised that XG wants to leave the pick-and-pass numbers, though.

Our game plan in these situations is to build our prime in the outfield then roll it home. I think 21/15 seems clear then either 17/13 or 21/17 seems ok for the 4. I haven’t looked at the evaluations though.

21/17 seems clearer to me than 21/15.

Yeah I agree that the most clear part is to get that spare moving
