No Home Board Prime? No Home Board Prime?

GNU does not want me to complete my home board prime here.

It's suggesting 8/5 or 12/9 are better than 4/1. I can't fathom why.

I think its because if you get hit back you have more numbers to hit his other checker. You now would have both aces and deuces to hit that.

Getting hit also gives you a lot more timing to pick up the second checker. Scooping the second checker is a huge equity gain here compared to the tiny number of extra gammons you lose when he rolls perfect.

Yep. If you hit only one and close, he's still a big favorite to win the game.

Hmm... I think my faulty logic was this:

If my checker gets hit I lose 20+ pips. Hitting his 2nd home board checker only gets me back those 20+ pips. So at best I come out even.

The reality is that these pips are not created equal. If I can keep either of his men on the bar I can make up those 20 pips in no time. But he can't go anywhere until I've borne off most my men, in all likelihood.

Surprising result, at least to me. Thanks for the help.
