This post isn't about the game of backgammon but really a backgammon player who some of you may or may not already know of.
Being from New York I attend the NYC Backgammon Meetup whenever I get the chance. Anyway I bring this up because I just read a very interesting article about one of it's former members, Rob Covlin. I remember seeing him once or twice at the meetups a few years back and of the few times I've come in the past year or two he was never there. Although I never played a game with the guy I knew that he was a pretty skilled player. If I recall correctly he would always have his Tak Backgammon Board with him at the meetups.
Today I came upon a very interesting article. Now for those of you who have been around the backgammon circles probably already know of this and this may be old news to you, but here it is. Rob Covlin was arrested after 6-years of his wife's death. He was then the prime suspect and now confirmed to have been the one who took her life.
You never know who anyone is really crazy to think I was in the same room as this guy and even spoke to him a bit regarding backgammon years ago not knowing that he had killed his wife years back. Before his arrest though, he had changed his name and going as Rob Sommer. But eventually his crimes caught up to him and now he is in jail for life.
